Hey Guys,
Havent been around here for a while. Heading over to Vic for a few weeks in May. Heading up to the old boys
shack at Coongulla. Want to head up to
Dargo for a look around.
Years ogo we got taken up there along a few tracks. Told it was the "Back Way" maybe call river road/river track?
I cant remember what the road/track was called but if anyone can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciates. It was dirt for at least 1/2 to 3/4 of the way and followed water for a fair bit.
Cheers
Matt

Hi mat
I would look for a different place this year as it has snowed in the high country and it is raining heavy
To night it is raining cats and dogs so to speak

Gday Matt
If you google maps for Lake Glenmaggie, all the towns and roads will be in the one picture.
Dargo is a bit East and North from Coongulla. You can go up Kentucky rd and around the area of Huggets Crossing.Nice place to
camp. Dont worry about the rain and snow , sort that out when you get there. Give me a call when you come through, we might be able to tag along.

Thanks Muz,
Been up that way before. Not to worried about the rain and snow. I used to spend all my holidays up in the High Country when I lived in Vic. We wont be camping anyway. Staying at dads
shack and doing a day trip, or staying at the pub for the night. If I remember correctly they do accommodation there.

From Coongulla you could go out Hodges Rd, Millers Rd to Bulldog
Junction then on to Smoking Point. Then down Chomleys Tk to
Mount Margaret Tk turn on to the Chromite Mine Tk, quite good camping at the Chromite Mine, then go out via B2 Tk to the Tamboritha Rd. From there head to Moroka
Junction turn towards
the Pinnacles & then go down Billy Goat Track & head out Crooked River Rd.
I had a place in Coongulla for years in Wootons Cove, where is your Dads
shack? I may even know him, I went up over
Easter to catch up with friends.

Hey Shaker,
On Woolenook way. Its Dot and Ern Halls old place. They were like Grandparents to me. Been going there ever since i can remember. Old boy bought the place when Ern passed away last year. Dad also knows the Savages.
Cheers for the road names.

Matt, it is a very small world!
We lived 2 doors away at no. 55 & were good friends with Dot & Ernie, I was only talking the other day about his 70th? birthday bash at, the then quite new, Coongulla Hall.
We lost touch when we sold our place & I was very sad to hear of Ernie's passing. I remember when Dot was battling illness.
I would love to have a chat with you one day, maybe send me a contact through MM.
Cheers, Paul.

G'day Matt,
Freestone Creek is still quite accessible. It isn't recommended to tow along it as there are some narrow sections and to meet an oncoming vehicle would be a problem.
It is a fairly weather resistant road but average speed would be 40-60km/h.
It is a bit slower than using the Briagolong-Stockdale Road to Beverleys Road through to the
Dargo Road - but more scenic.
