Sat Phone Telstra Sims

Dear all,

Following multiple prev. satcomms threads, we tried substituting the satplan simcard with our Telstra mobile simcard last desert trip.

Yes, it worked, but the quality of the comms was very ordinary.

When we have prev. used the satphone the reception was also not so smicko but not so bad as we experienced with the substitution.

For you travellers, who have substituted to the 3G Telstra from your sat plan, what, generally has been the quality of the comms please.

Cheers.

I assume you are referring to an Iridium phone.

There will be zero difference in the reception and voice quality. The SIM is just an identifier to the network to tell it how to bill the calls.

I suspect you have other issues with the phone.

I should also say I have used both a bit, and never had a problem.

As boobook stated, sim has nothing to do with the transmission.
I would go for a drive and test it again....it is likely to have been other factors.

Boobook is correct, a sim card is only an authenticating device in summary.

Baas,
Was with TRTelecom for 7 years with excellent service and never had a problem with reception.
Due to less travel and Vodafone for the burbs I now have a Next G phone and a $10 casual sim which can work in both phones. So far I've only played with it in the city but so far all good.
