Hey guys,

The old mazda 323 has just packed it in so my search for a 4x4 has gone into overdrive. Im after a GQ patrol or mav under the $10k mark. Preferably diesel. Im located in the south-eastern suburbs of melbourne so if any of you guys have seen something or have what im after please let me know.

Cheers,
Ben

Ill keep an eye out if your looking at one but just look around the rear windows for rust, check for water damage in the fuse box near drivers foot and if your going into water make sure it has a snorkel as the patrols have the air intacts in a very prepcarious position. Also keep an eye on the rigid mudflaps especially when rock climbing as they have a tendancy of being ripped off.

Just bought a GQ myself in the last couple of months. Best money I ever spent. For the 4.2 you will probably struggle to find one at that price, but you will if you persist. The 2.8 are more abundant but personally I belive the 4.2 is the best choice. More solod gearbox etc and last forever.

Not sure where the comment about the air intake above has come from. On mine the intake is at the front top of the bonnet up against the left side pannel (about 5mm gap at most) with a pretty good water/dust trap on it. I cannot imagine getting water in there from spray and you'd need to flood the bonet to submerge it. May be different on other models, in any case official fording depth in 600mm. Has made a number of river crossings and a few bog holes last weekend that left muddy spray up to the roof the full length of the car and over the front without any probs.

Cheers.
