In the absence of any first hand reports so far -

While we didn't travel the entire road, someone who towed an off road caravan through that year did not recommend it due to sand. I can't find another friend's report from a year or two ago, where they passed someone bogged who had arranged help. They had to leave the road to go around them and the bad patch. Yet in 2009 we met caravanners with a regular caravan and 4wd who had travelled through safely. If no current reports to hand you would need to check conditions locally prior to risking this road with a 2wd.
