I recently heard about a "large bunch of Nissans" driving through the Simpson in July. Don't get me wrong. Nothing wrong with Nissans and nothing wrong with a big bunch in the Simpson. It's a free world.
We tend to adjust our route or schedule to be somewhere else or at the same place at a different time, when it's less crowded.
Anyone got any dates or details?
Thanks

1000 participants would be in
Birdsville only I think. I am mainly thinking of
the desert stuff we do not have time to stay in
Birdsville on this one. And that is where the main crowd will be.
The Simpson is where the "minimal number" of desert crossers will be. But you will get lots of the 1000 party goers "playing" on Big Red and doing the crossing as
well, on the way to and from the
Birdsville celebrations.
So! We have three choices. Go next year. Go next month in August. Or
heaven forbid put up with the crowds. The start and end dates are fixed and determined by my hospital treatments.
I do not have anything against the gathering. Good on them. But it has made things difficult for us.
Ain't life full of surprises.

What about a 4th option? Change your route. If you do the trip in reverse you will hit
Birdsville at a different time.
Not sure how long you are planning on taking for your trip, but you may be able to change what attractions you see this time around, so you can change the time you hit busy spots. Then pick up any spots you missed on the next trip. Better get out there and see something (even if it wasn't exactly your original plan) than sitting at
home wishing you were out there.

The Simpson will be more busy than usual this year, which we should all be proud of.
We opened the dessert this year and here are some photos from our First Across
The Desert Trip this year with Dave from Mt Daer and Vic from Great Divide Tours who lead our trip. Enjoy the photos

Not really our cup of tea. Too much mud. Did a bunch of mud years back.
Where was that bus in photo 277. Also the bunch from 700 to 714. Where are they? Somewhere after Mt Dare I would guess. Photo names would be helpfull. I know its a big job and I hate doing it as
well.
What dates were you there?

PJR,
To answer your questions,
The bus photo was taken at 29 37 27 S 137 32 39 E. There is no official name for the place but it is sometime called Plane Hedge. It is on the
Oodnadatta Track after
Marree and before Lake Eyre South.
The mud photos were taken around
Freeth Junction.
The dates for the trip were 12th - 23rd March.
If you go into the photo properties of the photo that you are looking at , it will give you a lot of information. Time, date, GPS.
