GPS was placed in it’s bracket in the windshield and left in the sun. The battery overheated and exploded!

You just can't trust that LH drive electricity.
It also burns Jeeps and Ford Exploders, sorry,
Explorers.
The directions for most GPS units have a maximum operating temperature.
With your screen on full
bright and also in the sun with the black case "warming it too" the internal temp can easily get over the design maximum.
Lucky there isn't more of it happening.
Don't think, just trust the manufacturer to have tested all possibilities.

Yes - I have a funny feeling it has nothing to do with a window mounted gps but has been adapted by someone as such..but in the absence of any other info who knows.

What about the guy in HK or China a while back, maybe a year or more back. He bought a battery from a
shop for his mobile phone, installed and rang a number, put it to his ear and it exploded and killed him!! Michael
