I just watched an Alby Mangles, Adventure Bound episode on TV. Probably 25 years since I have watched one of these films. When they were first aired on TV, I remember them being an exciting outdoor, around the world adventure and Ably always had a good looking girl or two with him on his adventures. He would have been the envy of most outdoor guys his age in those days. We had Mike and Mal and Jack Absolam back then but Alby was a little different but had some controversy attached to some of his later episodes. The quality of the film is pretty good considering their age and still relevant entertainment today.. Michael

Gday Axle, Funny how things change, I remember some of the "get out of trouble" ideas that Jack had, but most are not relevant these days but were fantastic then. He had a spark plug tyre pump, great idea then and I always carried one in the early days in the back of my car in the 70's. That was ok with petrol engines but now its hard to find the spark plugs amongst the bits and pieces and plastic covers on modern petrol engines. Another thing i always followed was to double the pressure in your spare and have a transfer hose with schrader ends on it to transfer air to a slow leaking tyre. I did this from the 70's until i bought a 4x4 in 1999. Came in handy many times in all those years when you come out in the morning to find a flat tyre that had gone down overnight. Now with a compressor times have changed. I also remember the old stockings for a fan belt replacement, not sure how long that would last in a modern car with the load of a 100 amp alternator. Also with a flat battery was to jack up the back wheel( both with LSD) and place car in a high gear and spin the wheel by hand or use a rope on the tyre like starting an old mower!! There were plenty more and he was good entertainment in those days!!! Michael

Michael
there is always 2 sides to most stories
but here's a little know fact, Alby Mangles, Ben Cropp &
Malcolm Douglas when they first made there first films got together 1 owned the projector, 1 owned the screen & 1 owned the sound system they travelled together & showed there films/movies in town halls etc taking it turns, they did this for about a year
I had the pleasure to work with all 3 but could not believe that they had traveled together as 3 different personality's you could not get

Wow, I remember watching an Alby Mangels film when I was about 12 years old in our school gymnasium! I also remember having a keen eye for the ladies back then ;) I've only been seriously into 4WD for the last year or so, before that it was a necessity for work etc but I often wonder how the old pioneers back in the day managed. I mean even the simplest things to us nowadays must have been a mission back then. Tyre pressures, sand recovery's, etc etc. No such thing as portable compressors, air lockers, hi-lift jacks and the works back then! Kudos!
