There's plenty of room at a river crossing back towards Normanton, about 30km from memory. We checked it out on the way up, and came back and camped there in the dark after watching sunset at Karumba a couple of years ago. I presume it would be OK despite big wets since then.

We were warned about crocodiles in the water, and a brown snake got someone's dog while we were there, but that's life in the north!

You can camp past the Airport along the beach, we use to camp here. Just keep driving along past the wind sock there are some tracks at the end of the road.
