Problem solved, thanks to the prompt and courteous attention from the Ford dealership in
Mount Isa, which incurred no cost for their assistance It was a small tarred stone stuck up the end of the cable to the transmission which stopped park being engaged.

What a good result Margaret. We found businesses we went to in
Mount Isa very helpful. Happy travels.

Hi Margaret
glad all is OK and no $$$ involved
This is a gr8 site to get information from.
A number of suggestions did mention stuff stuck, BUT a small tarred stone is always hard to spot.
I will remember this issue when I am traveling
Enjoy the rest of your trip.
Its always good to hear how things went and what the result was
Cheers
Geoff

Glad to hear you got it sorted Margaret.
I didnt reply to your original thread however i did take some time to search the internet for possible causes to the problem you had.
As others mentioned, searching online seemed to indicate a stone as the likely cause, be it at the actual break caliper sight or elsewhere.
Again happy to hear you guys are sorted and on your way.
Travis.
