Hi all,

Can anyone help with some info on the wiring diagram for the reverse camera plug which is fitted to the drawbar of our van. See drawing.

Image Could Not Be Found

I do not know whether it was factory fitted or an aftermarket installation.

It has a moulded fitting at the end which goes into the plug housing on the drawbar so it looks like a purpose made setup.

The camera, which may be of no significance, is a rectangular type with infraredLEDs around the outside of the lense, very common type as seen on ebay.

Hoping someone has a similar setup and can advise.

I do not want to go experimenting as even 1.5 volts down the video line might mean a new camera is required. Especially with CMOS internals.

Cheers, Bruce.

Bruce, it may help if you dismantle the plug and check the cable connections from the rear of the plug. That may give you a hint.

Mine are........red=+12vdc......black= -12vdc.......yellow= video input.......copper braid=shield.

And you are right, +12vdc down the video lead will kill the display, happened to me , costly.

Hope this helps.

Almost forgot, that little square notch at the top is the connection orientation for the cable connections.

Hi Redbakk,
I cannot uncover the leads at the back of the plug, without destroying the waterproofing, as it is a moulded end which fits inside the outer alloy casing.

No cables are visible so I cannot see the colour coding.
I was not thinking of 12 volts down the line. I was thinking of doing a continuity check with the multi meter set on Ohms but even the 1.5 volts will blow any CMOS device. That would mean a new camera, Not prepared to go that far yet.

Yep, I got the notch as the orientation slot.

Many thanks for the reply Redbakk.

Cheers, Bruce.

G'day Bruce

Have have another look on ebay, or ABR on this site.

Mine is similar to your diagram but has 5 holes. It's a pigtail lead that goes from the van to the back of the car, jwith the same fitting at the rear of the car and the cable goes to the monitor on the dash..

Have a look at a few of the cameras on offer and you will probably see a 4 or 5 pin plug on the pigtail lead.

I am presuming you have not got the monitor or cables that go to the rear of the car. If so you should find what you need on ebay or ABR.

Hope this reply makes sense.

Thanks Boo Boo,

I have a reverse system which I fitted to the car which cost $50 from ebay all up plus my fitting time but I need to set up the camera on the van as the new van (second hand) has a camera which is wired to the socket on the drawbar.

I agree with you that this setup would have had a pig tail wire running from the van to the car but I did not get it with the van and it was not on offer when we got the van.

I sort of need a wiring diagram if one is out there somewhere.

Failing that I have to start pulling things apart which I am trying to avoid.

ABR is a good suggestion, hadn't thought of Dereck.

Many thanks for your reply Boo Boo.

Cheers, Bruce

Just checked ABRs website and the one Dereck has on display there with the pigtail lead is a bit more bulkier than the one fitted to our van.

No joy yet.

Hi Bruce, I've got a CMOS camera on my Patrol and another on the back of the Ultimate. I got them fom Brash Imports in Melbourne and the plug on the Patrol towbar looks exactly the same. Might pay to give them a call or look on their website. The owner (can't recall his name!) was very helpful when I was buying the 2 cameras and the video display. Unfortunately the plug on the Patrol is all sealed up and not easy to access so can't give much more help. good luck. Cheers

Hi Ian,
I was typing my last response as you were posting your reply.

I have got the circuit now thanks but I may need to get the original plug if I cannot find a cheaper alternative. I was looking everywhere on the net for info or plugs and came across Brash Imports and thought they looked like the ones.

So your advice re Brash Imports is timely.

Many thanks for your input Ian, greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Bruce.

Ian,
I just check Brash Imports website and the plugs and sockets are similar but not the same. Very close though.

Wiring circuit is not identical either but at a pinch I could use their setup.

Many thanks, Bruce.

Thanks BooBoo and Redbakk.

I bit the bullet this morning and pulled the camera off the van. Was not a big job as they had not gone to a lot of trouble to seal the grommet.

Whoever installed the camera soldered the Red camera wire to the lead yellow and the camera yellow to the lead red wire, can you believe it???.

Probably just as well I plucked the camera after all.

Given that the wires travel downwards inside the fibreglass wall at the back on the Jayco I assume it was probably a factory installation as, from other threads I have read on the Jayco and fitting a reverse camera, it is near impossible to do it aftermarket in the method it has been done.

Anyway, did a continuity test and now have the correct circuit.

I resoldered the wires in the correct format before closing up.

Once again, thanks for the input, greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Bruce.
