Guys
Has anyone out their who owns the same vehicle as mine,(2003 TD 100 IFS Landcruiser) fitted beefed up torsion bars to their truck.
I am thinking of adding a bull bar with winch (ARB Sahara and 9000 Warn) which will almost certainly play havick with the current front end set up ( koni adjustable shocks with the original Torsion Bars wound up around 40ml).
Therefore I will probably fit some beefier torsion bars to handle the extra weight and stop the nose dive, but I am concerned that the extra strain might damage the attachment points where the torsion bars are fixed to the chassis.
Any info and personal experience would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers and thanks.PT

I don't have one, but I'd tend towards caution and
check the implications with the stealer. It could have dire effects on any warranty issues which may arise.
Just a thought ...

I've got a friend with an auto TDI IFS 100 series.
He has been told that currently no one offers heavy duty torsion bars and those companies that did have withdrawn them from the market.
He has had it for about 6 months now.

Thanks for your reply. Lovell and Rancho make the beefed up torsion bars for the 100 series IFS and still seem to be available.

i have a 2004 Sahara (petrol) and i am having the same bullbar and winch fitted by ARB next week, i'll let you know how it goes... i had the same setup on my last vehicle (2001 GXL) and had no problems with standard
suspension... over 120,000klms although it wasn't IFS...

Thanks for your reply.
I will be very interested to see how your front end is affected. Doesn't the Sahara have height adjustable
suspension in the front and back, unlike the GXL Cruiser which only has torsion bars?
Look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers

Did you have the bar colour coded?
Lets us know how you find your new bar and wich, especially how it affects the height of your front end and the handling.

i was tempted this time, but no, i didn't go for colour coding as i use the car offroad and it would only end up with an awful lot of scratches in it..
i found that the last one (not colour coded either) was perfect, even after many thousands of klm's of outback and bush driving (including roo and sheep strikes) it still looked terrific when i traded it.. the colour helped a lot in hiding all the marks...
i'll certainly let you know of any discernable difference in the handling \ performance of the vehicle that i detect..

A friend of mine who works at ARB has told me that will have torsions to suit IFS 100 this month. Apparently they are extremely
well priced.

I have a 100 TD (late 2002) with IFS . we fitted heavy duty springs with LTR OME shocks with a 35 mm lift on the front and 50 mm on back.also fitted colour coded Shara bar with Warn winch. We have travelled a lot of Kms off road in all conditions with out any problems.

Thanks for your reply.
Just a bit more info if thats OK. I gather from your reply that you left the front torsion bars standard and added the LTR OME shocks to the front ( as
well as the back).
Also did you notice any difference with the front end in terms of steering etc after you added the bar and winch.
Thanks & CheersPT

The Shara bar, winch , LTR OME shocks and heavy duty springs were fitted at the same time. the vehicle handled very
well if any thing the steering is a litle bit lighter maybe due to the lift and heavy duty springs.
we tow a KK camper with a heavy ball weight and with a lot of gear and it does not change the ride.
hope this helps ( from South Australia ARB on Main North Road did a great job )
also we kept the original torsion bars.

i have just got my sahara back after the fitting of the bullbar \ winch \ towbar and the only difference seems to be a 10mm drop in the height of the front end... only time will tell if it will go further but i don't expect it will... the GXL i had had no problem in that regard ...

Thanks for your reply. It is that 10ml drop in the front end that has me a little concerned as it may affect handling and clearance in difficult situations. I have heard the IFS front end bottoms out on the stops easily on tracks with close undulations (probably a Nissan owner)
I will go ahead with the Bar and winch installation but will probably fit a set of beefed up torsion bars to keep the nose up, and hope the added stress doesn't cause problems with the chassis attachment points.
I know a guy who has the 100 TD IFS who is involved in the tag-along trip industry. He gets back from holidays on Monday so I will give him a bell and see what he has done/is doing with his 3 100 TD IFS touring trucks, as they fit heavy bars and wiches on the front.
If you are interested I will keep you informed.

Hi there,
I have a 100 series TD with IFS...
I know exactly what you are going through because i went throught the same thing a little while back!!!
I have an ARB Deluxe winch bar and a 9000lb winch...
I changed my
suspension through ARB and got 65mm in the rear (i went for the 200kn rating in the rear) and only 35mm in the front...
I did not change the torsion bars because i could not get a straight answer from anybody as to the result i could expect so i got the original ones wound up as far as they could go.....
I was told by many retailers and manufacturers that by changing the torsion bars i would eliminate some of the sag, but i could not be guaranteed any lift... Many
places told me that i could only expect 10 to 15mm of additional lift... i guess you need to decide weather it is worth spending the money on something that is just guesswork.....
The other thing that you need to consider is where your torsion bars are set at the moment... if they are already wound up, then you will get very little difference in the result...
In the end, i did not choose to upgrade the torsion bars because of the cost vs uncertainty...
Let me know how you go with it all!!!
Cheers,
Landcruiser.....
