We are currently in
Normanton heading to
Lawn Hill for a few days and after that we would like to cross to
Daly Waters along the Savannah and Carpentaria H'way but are not sure if our van is suitable?
We are driving a 4WD pulling a 20ft Jayco Poptop which is higher than normal but not an off-roader. We know it's been a few weeks since any rain but are still concerned about the river crossings?
We have had some conflicting answers when asking for help (Information Centre in
Normanton was no help at all)
Has anyone crossed recently who could tell us the conditions please?
Cheers,
Lynne & Den

Hi guys, water crossings wont be your problem but rough roads are going to slow you down, in short if you are a normal slow tourist and drive your vehicle at a speed suitable to the conditions then you can drive it in a 2wd at the moment, it does have some water crossings but not deep .... -300mm.... but we have had cattle trucks carting cattle so the road is chopped up in
places and corrigated also, nice drive if you go sensibly ...........
If you see a truck behind you or coming towards you STOP and pull way off the road and wait for 5 mins, they travel in lots of 3's so there may be 3 in a row, might as
well wait, also a useful tip..... take note of wind direction when you see the truck and pull off the side that the wind is blowing FROM ........ so you dont get covered in dust :-)
From
Lawn Hill go back to
Gregory and go towards Burktown, turn left about 30 klms short of Burky and follow the signs, the "back" way from
Lawn Hill to us is rough ...............
Cheers
Joe

Thanks Joe - perhaps you can give some updates as "Travellers Comments" into the new-look road reports? We are currently doing a major upgrade to the RC system but having got the comment system to work again, its the easiest way for you to pop some of this type of info in there if you don't mind! thank you
