Barb,

Went that way about 3 weeks ago. Drove from Adeles to Doomadgee.Didn't go to KFC but the road up to the turnoff was no problems towing a camper trailer. Rough in places but no problems.

Cheers

We did it two years ago just after the roads opened towing a Jayco Expanda and it was not too bad and a great drive through the outback.

Picture below was the Elizabeth River.

great pic, and I spot the EO sticker. Would you mind if I got a copy of this, maybe add to our collection of action shots to maybe use one day on the site?
thanks Michelle

Hi Barbara
I drove this exact route in September 2010, this is the back way to KFC and is a great 4WD trip, it will take about 4 hours. There are several open creek/river crossings which at the time were about knee deep at the worst point. No problem at all and I had several 4wdrives and a camper trailer in our group. I did walk each creek/river before crossing just to be sure. There were a couple of small bull dust holes but nothing like it was back in the 1990's when it was deep bulldust for several hundred metres in many sections. Much more civilised these days but still a great 4WD track. I wrote an article on this area and across the Gulf in Overlander magazine about 12 months ago. Of course, road conditions change up there every year, so ringing KFC for an update on the track is a great suggestion.

we drove that track late in the dry season last year and it was an easy drive at that time towing our camper trailer. closer to KFC after the turn off were some big bulldust holes, but the drive was still an easy one IMHO.
great scenic route and one i'd happily drive again.
