The Sky news said it was for 30 to 40 seconds and Kathy said at least 11 seconds.

A friend of mine lives in Mernda rang me to tell me that she thought she was having a turn. Stood up to see if she was ok. She said the tremor did not last very long.

"Kathy said at least 11 seconds."

Ann said we accept Kathy's version cause shes a sensitive soul !

For some it lasted a lot longer - A young friend in Warrigal had just fallen to sleep dead tired after a big day and was woken with bed shaking violently - he got up and grabbed a baseball bat and hid in closet for several minutes - why ? well its a family of practical jokers and he was sure someone woke him deliberately and he was gonna scare them back !

Confirming it was felt in Shepparton. I was watching TV, I thought I was having some sort delusional fit. So I Google'd it, and found this forum. Ha, I'm not nuts.
Things in my room, bed (I was sitting on), clothes horse, were shaking about 100-150mm side to side for about 20 seconds.

Everything shook here in Anglesea. Reminded us when on the Central Coast of NSW and felt the Newcastle Quake. Looks as though there is little or no damage, thankfully.

About a 30 second big shake and roar here inTraralgon. Heard that some chimney's may have collapsed in Moe but very little damage otherwise. Mirror fell off the wall in my daughetrs room and shattered. We will rebuild.

I was asking a few days ago about this years National Gathering. There was a suggestion that if would be held in Beechworth. That is a bit to close to Moe for me.

For those technically minded folk wondering about the whys and wherefores of the quake, Geoscience Australia has released the following:

Our seismometers registered a quake of magnitude 5.3m at 8.53pm, epicentre 10 kilometres south-west of Moe, depth 9.9 kilometres. The quake is beleived to have occurred when Gina Rhinehart dropped her change purse.
