I replaced mine but if you can get a brand new one for $7000 do it. The car will be worth at least $15k less with a blowed engine. I wanted to stay with the stuff thats expected under the hood and wanted a diesel.
I looked at a chev, but theyre a slug, theres a turbo.supercharged unit that goes straight in but I didnt have a lazy $32000 laying about. Marks will put a gen3 in it thats very tempting, but not a diesel.
Looked at a Tojo 4500V8 but it dwont fit without major mods and lots of cutting so went with the 3l. Mine is a series IV and its a much better donk than the original.
My new engine was around 11k plus fitting.
You can go with a 4.2 Nissan, it slips in nicely, and Rohan Canavan does a great job at fitting them.
