a quick question, for the nissan people..
my patrol 2009 gu. 40000k seems to use a small amount of oil when towing a 2t van in heavy conditions (hills etc ) about 500ml in 2000km. using nulon 10w / 40w
would this seem normal previously owned 4.2 td no usage between oil changes
thanks for any responce

How dirty is your oil when you start to see it being used?
The reason being,
mine starts to use a bit when towing my 2.5 ton van when it gets really sooty.
Normally it does not use any.

Have had 3x3litre patrols travelled approx 600000 k in total oil usage almost nill, but i wouldnt consider yours excessive considering what you are towing.

500ml in 5000km (oil change interval for me) I would consider acceptable oil usage but to use it in 2000km I would definately not find acceptable. Having said that I have seen engines over the years that just dont like certain oils have you tried same grade different brand and are results same?

Still 10,000 km intervial (km's) between changes.
When towing drop it back to 7,500 km, and see if that makes a difference.
I do not have to worry about that, as we have a 4.2 TD
every 5,000km, weather I like it or not
Cheers

Oil used to be cheap when I had the patrol......but now with the D40 Navara auto and fully synthetic oil I damn near need a second mortgage to buy the bloody stuff :-)

G/Day Bill,.. I would would go to 20w/50 grade Nulon,..I like Nulon oils ,but the 10w/40 with synthetic additives when hot is a light oil,...The best oil i've experieced for heavy work has been the
shell Helix range , but thats just my take on things.
Cheers Axle.

Maybe they put a Tojo motor in, in error ;-)
I would think that would be abnormal.
