Thanks mate, its a 2000, but already on tis second engine. supposedly with the sump upgrade etc. i believe it was a 2003 engine, im guessing its just hit the 106 km mark! just crusing down the freeway at my regular 95 kmh, noticed the turbo suddenly got lazy, two seconds later a ton of smoke out the back and running on 3 cylinders. Also it built up that much presure in the head, it popped the injector seals out the side!

Kiwi,
Not sure how many engines from the new Nissan Navara are around but they now come out in a V6 3l turbo diesel. 170 kw of power and 550 Nm of torque would be a great conversion for your Patrol. If you are going to keep it (and lets face it, the patrol with the right engine is hard to beat so why not just build the ultimate 4X4 and re-power it. If I had my time again, instead of paying top dollar for my 4.2 patrol, I would buy one with a blown 3.0l at a bargain and re-power it with a Cummins, Chev or what I mentioned above as the rest of the patrol is bullet proof. Cheers Mick

thanks mate, your dead right. The rest of the truck is pretty much unbeatable, just a stupid design flaw with the 3.0 engine. at this stage it only owes me $16k, so to put another $6 or $7k into it is still financially practical. A patrol with the right engine is worth $25k or so. Going the 4.2 basicly means the truck is still stock (even if it originally was a 3.0) and not a mongrel.

Sorry to hear about this.

Did you have NADS installed ? Have heard that this should prevent failure,

BW.
