We have an A-van Tayla...on road type. Wondering if the Birdsville Track would be too difficult for this type of van or should be just pack the car with tent and camping gear, and pretend we're not so old. In anticipation, Thanks.

Stones would be the main issue for you in my view - 500k + wherever you go then adds up to a lot of 'dinging'. Underside clearance would probably be adequate, but you would need robust tyres to rule out frequent tyre issues. If the van wasn't made with gravel roads in mind, the underside, as well as the rear of your car and the sides of the van (to a lesser extent) will be peppered with stones all the way.

Hi Bridgee,

Most of the posts regarding trailers and caravans on a track or trail, (especially when talking about the C.S.R.) that I have read are less about "what cost for recovery" than "can it do it?"

Something to consider.

Wayne & Sally.

If the road is open to 2WD you should be fine. If rated as 4WD you will prob. have clearance problems.

Did the Birdsville Tk about 10 days ago. There were few stones then.
