I have a 2000 GU Patrol. When both fuel tanks are full the fuel comes from the main tank but as it gets to about half full it then starts using sub tank fuel. However it seems that both guages are moving toward the "E".Does anyone know the problem ?

I don't know if this is your problem or not but every time you start your car a small amount of fuel will transfer from the sub tank to the main tank.
Cheers Dave.

Sounds like your sub tank is always enabled - this being the case it is waiting to transfer fuel but won't until the fuel gets below a certain level - this prevents fuel overflowing main tank.
First thing to try is disconnect battery for an hour and reconnect .

Robins reply may be on the money but if not add a new earth to the fuel pump the original is notoriously bad.
