I had a very rare failure on the 4.7l V8 petrol in our landcruiser. Of all things a valve retainer failed and let a exhaust valve drop. Luckily the piston survived, and all is
well with everything else. the problem is there is not a one anywhere in Oz, and the search is now on in Japan for a manufacturer that can supply.
Onlly the size of a twenty cent piece, and worth $5.50 at the dealer, But sure has stopped us dead for aprox three weeks they say. So the greatest can still let you down Big time....LOL.
Cheers Axle.

Axle : Do you know that a lot of auto wreckers now have a computer hook up ideal for finding part , maybe you could try if you haven't already .
You would think that somewhere someone has got wrecked motor ....
Are they all the same ?
cheers nick

Most likely the 4L Lexus engine uses the same sized parts and valve gear.
Has Toyota bothered to
check if they are the same part? Not one available new perhaps.
Engine reconditioners would be another source of the required parts as they would have access to engines which have failed and the valve gear is ok.
You would have to physically see the parts to know. Most parts people may not be aware the differences or similarities.

Just for interest sake,
check the net and see if Toyota production factories are/were actually situated in the Tsunami path. I think TSUNAMI is what is meant.

Axle,
I have access to a dead 4.7 from a 2007 GXL. I will show this my neighbour and if he can get hold of the part from it easily enough I will pm you and have it sent to you.

I got told by a
Perth Toyota dealer that there were no spare parts at all available in Japan for our 2002 model (78 series) Troopy as a result of the Tsunami and that they wouldn't be making any more parts either.
Didn't believe it, but I went to the wreckers anyway as I wanted the part asap.

Hey Axle , go easy on the greatest tag - your post makes me feel better about buying back (as a write off) my original Patrol that I sold and was then stacked as even "The Greatest " can have a bad day.
Hope it all comes together for you ok.

I hope it all works out ok Axle, but it is kind of ironic given your previous posts about mechanical aspects of 4wd's being more reliable than new electronics stuff.
I guess all vehicles will have faults from time to time, mechanical, electrical or gremlin. Hopefully they don't cause serious harm when they occur.

A fitter and turner could possibly manufacture you the part.
