Just checked in to
Cable Beach Caravan Park after having been to
Middle Lagoon & Gumbarnun on the
Dampier Peninsula. We should have asked to see the site... $50 per night (powered) for dirt in front of an industrial shed. No grass; tent pegs wont hammer in, so no awning. Power socket is just an exterior point, on the side of the shed, about a metre from the tap, which is also on the side of the shed. Turning on the tap results in a full blast jet because it is also used by the van next door and has a simple on/off splitter. Showers are tiny and not very clean, with fixed shower head. We've been on the road from Qld for 30 nights and this is bottom of the list, even compared to our bush-camping nights. Others paying the same fee at CBCP have vastly better situations. Not impressed; not happy.

Sorry to hear that you have got a grotty site. You don't need that after an epic drive. Hope things improve. Thanks for posting and we'll know to avoid it. I raise a beer to better days, and better
places for you......
Cheers, travel safe

When we stayed there we borrowed a water jet attachment from the office to get our pegs in the ground. Some of the
Grey Nomads were using electric drills with masonry bits to get their pegs in.

We stayed there last year, initially they sited us in the machinery yard along with the ride on mowers etc. I complained and was moved to a metre wide strip of grass next to a fence with half my vehicle on the road, no wonder so many people prefer bush camping.

This was our little spot last year at the same park. We certainly got to know our neighbours! And yes, same price, $50. On the other side of our camper was a main fire hose, so we were lucky there was no fire in the park...

A couple of my mates had a fishing trip up there recently. From what they told me,
Broome must be the most expensive place on Earth.

For $50 a night I'd be out of there, I wouldn't pay it.

I have never been to
broome but I have a mate who has been going for years for his eight weeks or something, stays in the same spot in this caravan park next to the same people who like him have yearly bookings. he loves it ...

Hi mate
I remember camping there years ago and it sounds as if it hasn't changed. Top dollar for a few metres of gravel.
Although I did recently pay $50 for an unpowered camping site at Big 4 in
Katherine for 2 adults and our boy. Needless to say we won't be back there either. At least
Katherine facilities were nice and the
camp had some sort of grass.

Hey Greg, I feel your pain.
I don't know why so many people go to
Broome, it hasn't really got much to offer caravanners. I passed through about this time last year and couldn't get a spot anywhere, except for a club
parking area - I think it was a gun club or similar, dry, dusty and packed. We ended up going up the road to
Roebuck Plains, about 20 clicks up the road, not bad and not as expensive as
Broome.
I reckon one day in
Broome is enough to see everything including a drive on
Cable Beach which would have to be the most overrated beach in the universe, very ordinary and full of very smelly camels. we will be driving past on our next lap next year.
Keep safe....it's a jungle out there !! :-0

Yep, same here! Found it crowded, over priced and over rated and that was in 1992!

Greg
Sorry to hear about your experience.
We too were in
Broome after leaving Qld and doing the
Gibb River Road. It was nice to
camp on grass at
Cable beach and have hot showers and do the washing
Unlike you we were furtunate; Allow me to give a plug to Tarangau; We booked at Tarangau CP and it was lovely, actually the cleanest and roomiest amenities I have ever come accross at any caravan park
Yes it was busy and more crwded than others, but that is
Cable Beach in season for you
Cheers, CJ

We just spent 5 nights in
Broome, but we prefer the
Broome caravan park, its still very close to everything. My parents have been going to
broome for the last twenty years and until recently they have stayed at
cable beach for about 2-3 months at a time and loved it. My sister has inheirited their site now and my parents who no longer are able to tow a van, stay in a onsite van in another park in town where they have beautiful
views of
Roebuck bay,
