G'day Kimber77
If you are looking at caravan park accommodation:
Kidman Park caravan park at
North Bourke is the pick for
Bourke.
The
Evening Star Tourist Park out of
Charleville is a good spot, but it is a bit out of town.
At
Longreach, the Discovery Park is probably the better of the two caravan parks, but ask to be put in the new area at the end of the park nearest the Stockman's Hall of Fame. In peak season, the older part of the park is very ordinary. Facilities are OK but the sites are not.
In June, at
Emerald, lots of folks were
free camping by the road/railway
bridge in
Emerald - looked b...y dreadful. The lake/
dam about 20 km out of town is much more attractive.
Same same at
Longreach - about 60 vans
free camping by the Thompson River.
All depends on the season I guess.
At
Bourke, get the mud map from the
tourist info centre and take your pick. You could spend a week there. If you want to be dazzled by the diversity of what goes on in the place, do the half day bus trip with Stuart ? from the info centre.
Star observatory at
Charleville.
Longreach - you need an absolute minimum of two days to take in both the Stockmans' Hall of Fame and the Qantas museum. Good coffee and muffins at the Outback Picture Gallery in the main street.
And if you are going via
Quilpie, treat yourself to a mud bath at
Eulo.
It's all good.
Cheers
John

Hi Kimber,
You can help us to help you by
- telling us when you are going - what season and how long for
- how you are travelling - camping, caravanning etc
- what sort of things are you interested in seeing and doing
- whether you have kids, dogs etc with you
Also up in the top RH corner of the
forum page is a search box, that will bring up a heap of stuff that will help you plan your trip.
Cheers,
Val
