Snorkel

Although significantly different, both petrol and diesel engines require a steady flow of air to operate. If the vehicle is not fitted with a snorkel,

Looking at installing a snorkel on my 2L diesel X-trail but I can only source a snorkel that has been successfully used on the 2.5L petrol X-trails. Would there be a big enough difference in air flow requirements that this snorkel would not be suitable for the diesel?

In most other cars the airbox connectors etc are completely different between the petrol and diesel. For instance, the same model Jeep Grand has the snorkel on opposite sides of the car between the two. Cheers

air boxes are on the same side and pipe diameter is almost identical. The actual box on the diesel is bigger to allow a bigger air filter but other than that I believe the air intakes are very similar.

Mate,
if it fits it will work with no problems at all.

2 litre diesel slower reving than the 2.5 petrol, plus it is s smaller engine so won't need as much air.

Yeah that's sorta what I figured. Smaller engine should be fine but I just wasn't sure as the turbo may require extra air. Thanks.

The 1hz naturally aspirated 95Kw engine shares the same snorkel and air cleaner as the 120Kw turbo motor which came out years down the track.

My 6.5l chev diesel in my cruiser has the original air cleaner and snorkel and doesn't suffer any problems.

Had the snorkel off when some damage was done to my guard and it ran just the same.
