Hi all

Can anyone who has one please advise if the new 78 series troopy has front OR rear diff locks as an option, or is it just both or none?

When I brought mine in 2008 – it had to be factory fitted in Japan.
At that time it was both diffs. Front only wasn’t an option at that time.

I should have said individual diffs wasn't an option that was advertised in their brochures then – I was only after both front and back lockers and didn’t enquire further when I placed the order

Ordered my 79 series flat tray in may 08, received it in January 09. Was told by the dealer I bought it from that they had to be factory fitted in Japan. Correct. No choice both front and rear fitted but had to be ordered as a GXL. Found out from another dealer later that was a load of crap. Was told you can order, and get, whatever you want. Wanted the bucket seat for driver and the one and a half seat for the passenger. Not allowed according to the dealer I bought it from. Didn't want carpets but still got them. Wanted central locking also. Was retro fitted in Australia, not factory fitted. Wanted cruise control, same thing was retro fitted in Australia also and both cruise control and central locking were not done by Toyota but were contracted out to ARB. I would suggest you talk to a couple of different dealers and maybe, just maybe, you will find one who goes out of their way to help you.
Even so I'm sure you will still be happy with what you finish up with. I am.
Chip it up and change the exhaust and you will have an awesome vehicle.
Cheers and safe motoring.

Admittedly my inquiry was at least 12 months ago but I was told that the factory diff lock option was available on either standard or GXL ?? level. The factory option pack was front AND rear but you had the option of only using the rear if you wanted. How about asking ARB what an air locker front, back or both is worth compared to the factory job.

I should add that I have an ARB locker in the rear only and it has got me out of trouble a few times. I guess the front one could be handy now and then but I am not into real extreme stuff so I haven't needed it. Been able to get out of trouble with Maxtraxs and a shovel.

The twin diff locks will be standard on the new GXLs - coincides with the arrival of the twin cab model in the september upgrade. I'm not sure whether workmate models offer them as an option.
