Hi All
I do not know if this has been reported Nationally, but Outback Roadhouse owner and legend, Adam Plate of the
Pink Roadhouse in
Oodnadatta was killed today in the car he was driving in the
Adelaide Targa event.
Deepest Sympathy to his family.
R.I.P Adam

Stephen
That's sad !
I was up that way in March this year ( stinking hot and quite humid ) with a group of Japanese people and the roadhouse was closed on the weekend for the summer season. Linnie and Adam saw us refuelling from our jerry cans and opened up the pumps for us. They saw how the Japanese were struggling a bit with the heat and let everyone use their swimming
pool and let us have our lunch beside
the pool under their pergola - outback hospitallity at it's best !!
The Japanese were extremely grateful.

Hi Gazz
Adam was always very helpful and he will be greatly missed and what he did for your group, was typical of what he would do when he would see someone in trouble or under stress.
Cheers

Thats so Tragic. Adam was a legend - opened up the
Simpson Desert to 4wders. Put in the signs, made it safe, offered great advice, set up ther own 1800 number, fixed tyres, collected all the vehicles that rolled over on those tracks, etc etc etc
Like Gazz above, our family was able to use their swimming
pool when we stopped there for lunch and fuel on a hot day in 1990. We've been through many times since and always stopped there. Had some oodnaburgers 2 weeks ago.
Hard to imagine
Oodnadatta without Adam.

I was able help a very badly injured mcycle rider 45km south of Oodna, Finke week, and Adam came out with his ute to pick up the smashed bike while the rider went to hospital.
Linnie I talked to via UHF to get the ambulance.
Both lovely people.
Adam really knew his work and helped many.
He helped put everything right that he could.
A sad loss.

Hi
Ross
I think that we are all lost for words about a true Outback legend and like you say, it is a very sad loss.
Cheers

Thanks for informing us of this Stephen, I did hear it on the news but it was just a quick snippet and no names given.
So sad to hear of his passing, I
well remember both he and his wife when we went through
Oodnadatta a couple of years ago.
Deepest sympathy to his family...
RIP
Cheers
D.

Hi Deanna
The local Channel 7 New gave an insight into Adam, and even mentioned that his son was also killed a few years ago in a car accident also.
Thanks for your reply.
Cheers

That is so sad, that poor family, it would be hard enough losing one to a vehicle accident but to lose two in separate accidents would be just awful.....
Thanks again for the info Stephen.
Cheers

Horrible news Stephen.
I'm not sure what we can say under the circumstances.
I can't imagine how Lynnie is feeling now.
I've not personally met either Adam or Lyn, but I've heard/read so much about them and what they have achieved in their special part of this world, that I truly feel as though they are friends. Wonderfully dedicated people to what they loved, and still love.
Lyn is obviously going to be devastated, and I don't know what, if anything, we can do to ease that feeling other than be standing with her, for her man.
Adam was an amazing personality in many ways and the impact of this tragedy will be on our minds for a long time.
Adam and Lynnies Roadhouse is next on my list for a drop in.
Hopefully sooner rather than later.
Standing with you Lynnie.
So sad.

Hi Lancie
Yes it was such a tragedy. The Targa
Adelaide was not run today in respect of the death of Adam.
Cheers
