A couple of weeks ago I saw that Nissan were going to drop the diesel Patrol for a petrol only model and saw this article in the SMH today.

Not too sure how it will sit with the Aussie consumers but Robin will be happy.........will he upgrade to the new model?

Little Chance there Lyn.
I have believed for a while that the GU is the last of the strong and capable
coil sprung live axle cars that are truly capable of handling our bush hence I brought the last one basic white petrol one sold.

However consumers are strange and companies look at markets differently than many of us.

You and most with 4wds would have heard of the endless 3lt diesel Patrol issues yet Nissan just had there 50th anniversary of the Simpson crossing and made some 500 limited edition 3lt Patrols in response.

They were all sold out before the event , so someone knows what they are doing !

No need to worry.... yes the new Patrol will only be available in Petrol and it has been that way since first mentioned as Australia is the only real diesel market..... word is the new one will hit the market at $100,000+.

The older model will be run side by side with the new model as with the D22 and D40 Navara.

Will be interesting to see how Nissan gets around the traction and stability control problem they have with the current Patrol....... there exemption runs out end of this year.

olcoolone, The GU Patrol has had Stability Control and ASC this from about may 2012 builds. Rear diff locks too.

Also the 2013 Pathfinder won't have a diesel option either, apparently Europe doesn't want it so we Australia doesn't get it.

Who knows what happened to the Renault connection. Perhaps they want to close Nissan down completely.

So while a lot of other brands are expanding into diesel, nissan is deleting it... I can't quite see the logic there but after their other decisions concerning diesels over the past few years that doesn't surprise me.

Is the 2013 Pathfinder in Australia still a body-on-frame design? I looked at the Nissan site and didn't see an answer to that question. I did see that it has full independent suspension...

Look what happened to the Pathfinder here in the USA:http://www.nissanusa.com/all-new-pathfinder/

There is no mention of a diesel engine for that market but on the other hand they have not had a diesel engine in their Pathfinders - Site Link - have a look at the engines listed in the side panel on the RHS.
