tow ball weight

just wandering if anyone knows how to get the towball weight on a caravan when the van is un hitched. I just put the jockey wheel on the scales and i got 280kg,

well that will be pretty close, most good caravan accessory shops should have ball weight scales. u just drop the hitch on the scales and read the weight.

Have a look at this thread on the
Caravanersforum It gives a couple of different scales but the cheapest is using bathroom scales.

And don't forget that figure comes of your vehicle's carrying capacity..... If you have a Patrol or landcruiser that leaves only around 300kg for accessories, people, fuel and what ever else you carry

Thats right .. Our 2011 Patrol ST (7 seater) wagon is overloaded with all seats occupied and both fuel tanks full.
Forget the bullbar, winch, spotties, snorkle, AUX battery, roof rack,
water tank, towbar and anything else you are thinking of taking. Forget about anything that adds weight to the towball.

Have found that the Multiweigh Jack avaliable from Maytow caravans in SA is one option and also doubles as a bottle jack

weighing at the jockey wheel wont be 100% accurate, it will be lighter at the ball than the jockey wheel.
Not hard to calculate though
