Will be arriving in Perth in 2 weeks for a 1 week stay.

From what I can figure out Karrinyup appears to be a popular place but looks like we have to drive down a freeway to get to it

Someone else has recommended to me Swan Valley which appears to enable freeway avoidance.

What we are after is a good park the Perth area that is easy to get to with good access to public transport (preferably train) to give us a break from driving but is not too far from a decent supermarket etc.

Any suggestions?

Karryinup is a good choice. Its about 3 klms from the freeway and about 3-4 klms from the beach.
The train runs down the centre of the freeway ,you can drive to the railway station and park your car in secure parking.
Its about 20mins and 4 stops on the train from the city centre .
Karrinyup shopping centre is only 5 mins away and its one of the biggest in WA,2-3 supermarkets,Myers,David Jones etc are all there and there are other smaller shopping centres even closer.

In the Swan Valley you would have to bus it into Midland to catch the train.

Ross has the right idea. Lake Karrinyup is the best for the reasons he stated.

The Swan Valley Big 4 is alot further away ( and I mean alot).

At Karrinyp you also have shopping at Innaloo Shopping Centre.

Perth Central CP
We stayed there a couple of years back - reasonable rates (then) - quite a nice park we thought - bus to and from the city was good - 5 minute drive to a huge shopping centre (forget which) - not far to Midland - on the main highway east too.

What you take to be a lane way is actually their entrance driveway.http://goo.gl/maps/MVABI

Regarding the buses, when we were there a few years ago, the buses ceased running around 18:00. If you want transport to the station after that time check to see if things have changed. If you want night time transport to the city then go to Central.

Hi OzNjB,

We've stayed at this caravan park. It's well run, clean and offers a lot. The bus runs from right in front of the resort. It takes you to the train station. There you can go to Perth, or all the other places.
It's the best place by a way for convenience.
