We have a Nissan patrol GU II DX 2004 Cab Chassis 4.2l Turbo diesel with a canopy (ex telstra) and would like to know if the vehicle is capable to tow a 3tonne caravan if you put the correct towbar on it.
We have checked the Nissan handbook and there is nothing in it to suggest the correct towing weight the vehicle will tow.
Can anyone suggest or give us information that is correct so we can decide.

It doesn't appear so mate. Both the leaf & coil sprung models have a braked towing capacity of 2500kg.

Patrol specs leaf

Patrol specs coil

I think I got the links right - either way - both 2500kg towing cap braked.

Good luck

Thanks Stef for the info, looks like we have to trade the vehicle for one that's able to tow it or look at a lesser van weight.

Thanks again

It is possible to get a GCM upgrade done , by a Signatory Engineer - requires a chassis modification - then licence approved by state licensing authority .....
towing capacity = GCM minus GVM

Thanks Lizard for your reply,we live in Mandurah W.A. so where would be the best place to contact/look a signatory Engineer to check the chassis for a upgrade.
Thanks again

lizard,
Probably shouldn't stick my 2 bobs worth in here but are you sure the towing capacity can be upgraded. I know with chassis, tyre, suspension mods the GVM can be. The reason I ask is that a lot of people that had 80 series Landcruisers earlier than about 1997 had a towing max of 2500 kg while the same vehicle from 1997 onwards had 3500kg towing and no one would sign off on an upgrade no matter what mods they did.
Could be wrong and have been in the past...lol

Cheers

have been out of internet coverage for awhile , I forgot name of signatory engineer that certified my ute , I had chassis strengthened - transverse & also ATOC kit fitted to spring towers .... he forwarded papaer work to DPI , they sent me a new license with increased GCM (5800->6200 kg approx) , then I got new VIN cut & fitted .... rang insurance co & they noted upgrade on policy ...

I might get my wrist slapped by the Mod Squad but there is a Nissan Patrol forum. AFAIK free to join if you need to and I am sure someone on there would know the tow rating of your vehicle.

Oh what a feeling....oh wrong jingle...sorry
