Hi All,

Ordered a new TD GXL Prado this week, delivery in April. Can anyone tell me how the fuel tank system works. I believe on the 90's there was a button to switch between sub and main tanks but on the 120 it is all automatic.

Does it drain the sub first then the main? Do they fill from the same filler? Do you end up with some unused in each tank when the low fuel light comes on thus cutting effective capacity, ie: does it drain one tank completely before using the other? How conservative is the low fuel warning? Is there another 100km in it?

Any advice appreciated.

Hi Steven,
It will drain the main tank first, then automatically switch to the other tank. You will know when this happens because an icon will appear next to the speedo. There is only one filling point.

Just something to be aware of
120 series prado's fuel guages can be confusing

When the 90l light is not on the guage is showing what % of 180 litres is in the tank (eg 3/4 full is approx 135 litres left)

When the 90l light is on the guage needle returns to the full mark & shows what % of 90l is in the tank (eg 3/4 full is approx 67.5 litres left)

Regards Don

When the needle is just below the half way mark ( about 800km to 1000km done ) it will then suddenly shoot up to full again. There will be a 90L icon showing but there will only be 87L left.As far as know both tanks will drain right out. I have got 100km out of mine after the low fuel warning came on.
