or think of it another way,
if your 4wd died tomorrow and you had $15'000 what would you by to replace it?

Hope to find something and get out there soon.

If wasn't in the market for a real tidy example myself, I'd say a GQ wagon would be a good choice.....but 'cause I don't want the competition, look for something else :-)

I'd be straight out to buy another GQ Wagon. Just went through the 'What 4WD' process myself before buying a 4.2 Diesel GQ. I wouldn't change now for anything and if it ever dies i'll get another one. I spent 6 months thinking about it before I had the money together. Thought about a triton, hilux, rodeo, jackaroo, pajero, cruiser, discovery and patrol. My budget was $10000 - $13000.

Of course it depends what you want to do. The GQ Wagon is great for touring and pretty serious off road. If your after a hardcore weapon you might want a shortly. If you want to take 3 kids around Oz for the year a troopy may give more space. For mine, the GQ is a perfect allrounder, reliable, and cheaper than a comparable Tojo.

Cheers.

For $15 K I would look around for an absolutely immaculate 61 series landcruiser and enjoy it.
Its got power, economy and comfort and parts availability and aftermarket options that dont come any better.
Number 2 choice would be the Patrol for similar reasons to the 61 landcruiser.

Another choice that wouldnt suit everyone ,but worth thinking about ,is $15k would buy a very nice BJ74 MWB turbo diesel. For someone who wants plenty of offroad action a 74 would be hard to beat.

If you hunt around, you might be able to find a standard 80 series cruiser, which is a very capable off-road vehical, go for a diesel though, they are a bit slower taking off, but they give good economy and they will criuse on 110 - 120ks
