Free camping sites around Australia - book

G'day,

I was wondering if there is a book is available that gives all free camping info throughout Oz? I have seen some for a state, but not the whole shebang.

I am planning a trip around soon & think this will be a valuable edition, if it is available?

Can anyone suggest a title?

Thanks
Tony

Hi Mark,
Thanks for this app, just put it on my phone.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Hi Tony
We have Camps 6 included in our VMS 700HD GPS,
but book is still must, as it is easier to handle or to
have quick look.
There are 3 types of Camps 6 book.
First is on spiral bound A4 size.
Second is same thing, but it doesn’t have spiral bounding.
This is just a book that would very soon fall a part.
Third is called Camps 6 with snaps. It is bigger than two others,
And as the description tells, there are lots of snap shots of the
actual campgrounds.
The last one is quite bulky, so if you have caravan, it is OK,
but for 4WD tourers is too big and also weight bit too.
If you have Map Centre shop, they usually have all of them
on the display.

Hi Dana,
with your vms do the sites show on the off road or town maps or both?
Which folder did you load them into on your vms?
Thanks
June

Hi June
I open navigation button, then VMS street navigation, open navigation menu go find POI (point of interests), go to Camps6 enter a state and enter where you are looking for campsite or arrow to navigate to nearest campsite. VMS shows map, campground and option to navigate by GPS to there. If I enter say Dalhousie Springs it will navigate me there from anywhere. So yes it is in the street program, but it does also off road camping.
Not bad, as it was one of promotional bonuses at the time when we purchased of VMS.

Try the shop on here - they have Camps Australia Wide edition 6 available - their service is excellent, will send anywhere in Australia very promptly.

The Camps books are widely available in newsagencies, motoring organisations etc., but why not support this site that you are a member of?

And as for the book that is not spiral bound breaking quickly, I have Camps 5, had it for three years - never fallen apart - still in good condition.

Doesn't matter what edition you have, there updates available on the CAW website.

Hi Julie
Before we bought our spiral edition, couple of people showed us
Camps6 book without spiral binder and they have pages falling out.
But than again, not everybody is as rough as those people were…
Cheers Dana

Thanks for that Dana - , my book gets used every day, as we are full time on the road - but I sort of take care not to turn the pages back or break the spine, but that is me, and as you say we are al different.

Boiling Billy has a book that covers free camping. It is a very good reference that supplements the camp 6. It is produced to cover each state so if you only need NSW that's all you have to buy. You can get it at most big camping stores.

Hi Sanantone,
I have no problem with you quoting A.B. (Banjo) Paterson but this particular line in the verse says, and i Quote
"For the DROVER's life has pleasures that the townsfolk never know"
Plus if you are truly quoting the one and only Banjo the correct spelling of his surname is Paterson with one T.
Maybe your last name is Patterson and you have just made up your tag misusing a quote from the real person.
