Hi everyone,
Well I have just published a number of major updates to the
forum system. You will not notice it when you are just viewing the system but when you post a new, reply or follow-up you will see differences.
In the posting pages you now have a dynamic preview option and much larger buttons and screen layout. Hope you like it.
There are major difference to the whole back-end of the system and as such please let me know if things do not work as expected - I am really keen to know about not getting email alerts, thread watch alerts and if you just get errors.
These changes are a complete rewrite of the code & database connection logic to bring the
forum software code up to my new development standards. This will provide us with much better scope to adjust and update the
forum system in the future.
Fingers, toes, arms and legs all crossed hoping I git it all right....
David

Barry,
If you typed a reply you would have seen some of the updates. The entry of data pages are different. Subtle maybe but different - larger and a much more improved Preview system.
I was not doing much on the live system this morning so not sure what happened there. Guess it depends on what time in the morning you are referring.
Take care
David

Thanks - it is not really fiddling - it is more adapting the site to the ever changing landscape of the web. But gee it changes a lot all the time and trying to keep up is more than a full time job.
I move over to
places next, then user
treks, then I will most likely have redesigned how something works so need to role that into the
shop,
forum,
blogs,
classifieds - oh dear and never ending story......
Enjoy.

Thanks
John - hope you are
well. I assume you were using the full site on the iPad else you would not have seen any changes as the mobile was part of the reason for the change - I preferred what I did on the mobile system.
No I think I will role in the
forum search tool that I put on the mobile system - I reckon it works a treat. I will do some testing first.
Have a good one.

Just tried to add a response from my iPhone via the mobile site and got a message saying the requested page has not been converted to the mobile version yet.

Yep, seems good now.
So many platforms/versions to manage makes life hard for you.
This is from my iPhone.

David,
Many thanks for the change to replies. The larger font is so much easier to see, and suddenly I find I'm not hunched over the keyboard, trying to see what I've typed, or, more correctly, the mistakes I've made.
My posture has improved after only 2 replies!!! LOL
Just tried the Preview, and I like the Return to Edit button too. Though I had no dramas with the old preview system either. One just had to remember to type in any changes, before hitting the Submit button.
Good job I reckon,
Bob.

Bob, Great thanks, glad you like it - Yeah the preview is just more accurate to what will be really displayed once you hit submit and is loaded dynamically without you needing to wait for redraw and scroll down the page.
Have a good one.

Hi there,
I'm not sure whether you have addressed Smartphones as yet, but I no longer can view anymore than the two newest threads on my HTC phone, and even then I can't read the contents of the threads. I have been checking this on and off for the past week, but still no change.
Is it just me or is there a genuine issue with Smartphones?
Thanks,
Linda.

Linda,
I use and
test the smartphone system often - parts of this thread were submitted using an iPhone. I have tested also using my Android phone and have not seen this issue. Can you tell me any more about what is happening?

I reloaded the URL and I briefly saw the full page of threads and could click on one to read, but as soon as I try to read it, I receive a message "The requested page has not been converted to the Mobile version yet!".
When I try to click "close" to return to the default
forum page it won't close that window and the only way I get back to the
forum is to reload the URL.
Having said that, this time when I have reloaded it, I am back to my original problem - I can only see two threads but can't read them as I receive the message "The requested page has not been converted to the Mobile version yet!".

That is very strange! I am replying to this using my iPhone and was able to open various threads and scroll around the display. I will go get my andriod device and try that in a minute.

This from my andriod device. There may be a caching problem with your device try
clearing the cache in the browser and try again. the option is in the more settings panel.

That didn't help, David.
But I did find under settings that I can switch mobile versions off.
That's fixed it and I'm happy to view that way.
I know that's not the solution but I don't know what else to try.

I too like the new reply format, but one thing bugs me about this
forum.
When you reply to a post and want to go back to the
forum you have to click 'back' 4 times. Other forums take you back to the original post after you have replied, and then it is only 1 click to go back to the
forum.

If you press the Back to
Forum button (located that the top and bottom of every thread) it will take you back to the main index at the exact point where the
forum thread you just had opened was.
