Hi there,
I am making my way up to Cairns this year to see the sun disappear for a few minutes, if the clouds haven't already done that. Here is a link to the website.
http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=total%20eclipse%20of%20the%20sun%20cairns%202012&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&ved=0CCYQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Feclipse2012.org.au%2F&ei=jslvUOCBPK6SiAf10IGIBg&usg=AFQjCNG1wW73CaJtRGMGtP6H9sZ11EPADA

I am going up there for other reasons also. If Ford allows me.

G'day Alan and Dale,

I think you need to be a little further north I think somewhere around Port Douglas to get the best effect. We'll be at Wonga Beach to watch it at 6-30 am on 14/11

Kind regards

Port Douglas only has another 6 seconds of totality than Cairns.

Coastal areas will be packed better get there early.

NASA Eclipse map

I'll be there somewhere if I can get through the middle of the island without drama.

Cheers

Ok, I'm confused..

what day is it?? All the local info up here (Cairns) is saying that the eclipse is on the 14th Nov, but the NASA link says the 13th Nov?

Which is it? 13th? or 14th?

It's on the 14th.

NASA uses Universal Time (UT) or Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
Add +10 hours for Queensland.
Lucky Qld doesn't have daylight saving that would confuse the issue even more :-)

Saw the total eclipse at Ceduna a few years ago . It was the most awesome experience .Totally worth going to the best site to see it.
