Looking for a suggestion please for where to camp somewhere around Bruce Rock-Merredin-Westonia region. Looking for a spot to lay out the swags, have a campfire etc - just for an overnighter. Have plenty of time as we're keeping the daily kms low, so don't mind a detour well off the main road. Please member message me if you'd prefer to keep your spot quiet, or post here if you're not a Member. Your help as always is much appreciated.

Kokerbin Rock off the Quairading-Bruce Rock Rd-check out Mt Stirling
Eaglestone Rock out of Nungarin-check out Mangowine Homestead.

Will have to take wood to both.

Hi all,

Our understanding is that Kokerbin Rock is now (has been for awhile) day use only.

Baladjie rock has a good series of campsites, please be aware that fire bans may be in place now and that you need to secure your campsite against the resident foxes - who have very little fear.

Great place to go camping and there is lots to see, enjoy your trip.

Cheers,
Wayne & Sally.

PS Did you travel to the Congelin Dam area??

Hi

The last I heard from the Senior Operations Manager, at DEC Merredin,
was that the camping area at Kokerbin was to remain open until the new camping area at Kwolyin was in operation. To my knowledge the area at Kwolyin has not opened.

The only area you could camp at Kokerbin was the area vested in the Shire of Bruce Rock where the facilities were located.

I will follow it up on Monday and see if that has changed.

So many votes for Kokerbin :) so that got plugged into the itinerary - hope to find it is open? Rowdy - if you do get a chance to get a heads up on the situation (not sure of your contacts), would much appreciate knowing about it. A reply here will is fine. thanks. Michelle

Hi Michelle

I rang the Shire of Bruce Rock in which the camping area is vested this morning.

You are still allowed to camp in the designated camping area that is near the facilities. The rest of the rock is a nature reserve and comes under DEC. There is no camping in the DEC area.

Talks are still ongoing about the move of the camping area to the old Kwolyin townsite. They hope things will be moving shortly, so make the most of it while you can still camp there.

If you get the chance to have a look at Mt Stirling the link below has some info that may be of interest.

A fair way out Michelle, but there is Elachbutting Rock around 100 kilometres north of Westonia. Merredin itself does not have anything authorised. A small ‘wave rockrock to the south of the town is day area only.

Are you going soon? Once you get into November, campfires will be off the agenda in most wheat belt shires.

Motherhen, we are actually headed to Elachbutting Rock later in this trip.
Getoutmore - can you post that route into the site as User Trek please? You only need to upload your route file. Then we can all zoom it, and Members can download it. Michelle

Sorry Motherhen I didn't answer all your questions. We leave tomorrow - just a few quick days away with the kids whilst its still school holidays and to bring some sanity back into David's brain - all this programming development is turning him into a monster!!! teehee. (never fear, Adele has everything covered in our absence - she's the best staff member you could ever ask for, so please treat her nicely everyone!).

Unfortunatly part of that route is now no go - you would remember that saga a while back with the mining company and the phone number
