GLX vs GLS Pajero

Hi All,

I posted a thread the other day re: Pajero mods and received some great feedback thanks to everyone.

The actual Paj I looked at ended up being a 06/2010 GLS NT (which is a good thing from the feedback I got on my original post) with 90,000kms for $35K - non-negotiable.

A couple of questions I have are am I missing out on anything major by going with a GLX over a GLS and does $35K sound reasonable considering the kms?

One other thing I noticed was the tyres on it looked like A/T tyres of some description (sorry I can't remember the brand) would this be right?

Also it had electric brakes installed and the previous owner has taken the unit but left all of the wiring in place, is it possible/worthwhile to get a new unit for this?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers, Lloyd

Hi Lloyd,
Have a look at redbook.com.au to get an idea about the price.
If you tow a trailer with electric brakes, then I am sure you can easily get another brake controller installed, otherwise I wouldn't bother.

G'day Lloyd, The average motorist does 20,000km a year....this vehicle has done 90 in two years. What was it used for? GLX is bottom of the model in appointments where the GLS has more bells & whistles. Check the service book for all servicing history. Tyres would be A/T probably B/stone,Dunlop or Yokohama. Obviously the vehicle has towed something in its lifetime. Have you spoken to the previous owner? Is the vehicle in a car yard? Regardless, get it full checked out . A brake unit would be the least of my concerns at this time no use having the nicest brake controller if it's attached to a heap of junk IMHO. They are a great vehicle.

Hi NTVRX,

Have found out a bit more myself, the car was on a company lease hence the kms, service history is all up to date so new car warranty still applies until 2015 which I think helps offset the higher kms.

Brakes wise I'm not worrying too much about the controller as I won't be doing much towing (will be hiring a camper trailer for a Kimberleys trip via Tanami next year).

Biggest downside to GLX from what I have read is no rear A/C but that's alright, our boys will just have to toughen up a bit.

The tyres are brand new and was wondering if it's worth selling them and putting something better on or will these be fine for our trip next year?

Have sourced the car through a broker and he checked the underside of the car and said there is no "pitting" which implies it hasn't done much 4WDing.

Cheers, Lloyd

Although GLX does not have rear A/C it does have two outlets at the bottom rear corners of the centre console. The other things missing are the plastic door trims (tupperware), a couple of small interior lights, flashier cloth trim and non-climate control AC. Upside is the GLX has the highest payload capacity. There was a lower model by the way - a GL, although not very common.

Ex cop NT's with similar KM go for around 29 to 32k at the auctions. Might be worth checking that yours isnt one of these as having researched them the condition and servicing of these was highly variable. Giveaways are usually a black Smartbar with Warn winch and a ground out bit of the passenger front door frame where it was made to clear the light bar cables. Given yours had a brake controller it's likely a Nomad had it though.

Brake controllers can be had for very little $$$. A prodigy II is one of the favourites. Re the tyres - more info needed on what is fitted. Make sure you also have a read of pajeroclub.com.au forums.

Hi Pat,

Thanks for the info on the GLS, from what you are saying there are A/C vents, it's just the GLS has extra vents?. Another thing I noticed is no fog lights, are they easy enough to buy and fit afterwards?

Is the wiring for the brake controllers universal?

I will find out which tyres they are and post details to get some feedback.

I have spent a bit of time on pajeroclub.com.au, it's a great source of info. Between that site and this one the amount of info you can get is excellent so thanks for all the input, us newbies have a lot to learn :)

Can't wait to get out there and experience some of what all of you have.

Cheers, Lloyd

You're a brave man buying a $35K vehicle sight unseen. I'd be asking for an NRMA report and a REVs check (or equivalent in your state) at the very least.

Seems like a hell of lot of money for a veehicle that has done 90000 ks, remember once it it hits 100000ks the value drops. Have you done a valuation on car sales, very easy to do.
