Putty Road, NSW. A great place to camp.

We have just had a lovely night free camping near the Putty Road, about half way between Windsor and Singleton. It is reasonably quiet and very tidy.

I used to haul grain through this road in the 1970s and 80s with much more traffic then. There are a lot of motor bikes using the road now.

The location is beside the Grey Gum Cafe. There is free camping for 2 nights, showers can be had for a donation and nice clean toilets. No power available but that is expected for free camping.

The bonus is that we had lunch and breakfast there. They make great cappuccinos, too.

I have no interest in this location other than to return again in the future.

Thanks DW, I'll remember that for next time I am passing through.

Yep,

Great place the Grey Gum Cafe, don't suggest you turn up on a Sunday afternoon though as they generally cater to 100+ bikes.

Also a very popular place for car clubs etc for lunches or afternoon teas.

Highly recommended.

How long has it been there? I tried to look at it on Google maps and I can't find it.

DW, I got that info from your link. When I fed it into GM the place it showed up looked like a rural residential block. Street view did not reveal anything like a roadhouse/cafe. That's why I am asking to find out if it is too new for Google Maps to show it. Did you get something better?

Peter,
It is in the rural area and the Google Map is obviously in need of an update. It does show the area in which it is in.

It's only been there are couple of years. It opened around the time the time the original half way house burnt down. The local council almost closed them down with lots of constrictions but that seems to have settled down. They do a yummy egg and bacon roll and everything is clean etc. A welcome sight on the Putty Road!

Mark
In those earlier days there was not a reliable weigh bridge in the Premer area to check weight as there is now.
Being an honourable ExplorOz member, I would never have 'intentionally' overloaded!

Don't forget Grey Gum Cafe provide this as a service with the expectation that guests will be their customers. They told me that apart from a few backpackers, everyone does the right thing by them.
