Agree with Rod too, satplus gives great service and excellent backup.

depending on where you are travelling you may need an 85 cm dish to make finding the sat much easier and better rain performance.

A "found" Foxtel dish mounted on a flood light stand from Bummings is a lot cheaper than most suppliers.
If your lucky it still has the dual LNB on it, one dish for you and your mate next door, both screwed into the LNB.
If You cut the LNB arm off behind the dish and fit a sleeve , bolted one side and a thumb screw the other for sliding the arm back in, it will be a cinch to carry as well.

I have a 'found' foxtel dish, and a spare digital setup box. Do I need any special subscription to get Free to Air TV? I have plenty of foxtel grade cable (RG6 I think) and will buy a sat finder (ebay etc). Anything to watch out for or any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I hope by "spare digital setup box" you mean a Satellite Decoder?
If not then you will need to buy a VAST Decoder which is $269 pretty much wherever you choose to buy.

This box will come with a card which is all you need to "subscribe".
then you need sufficient cables, fittings, tripod, the correct LNB and the Sat Finder.

Get a good Sat Finder, Satplus have a perfectly adequate one for around $100.
