Hi Im looking at selling my partners vx wagon and replacing it with a hzj80 gxl. Would prob cost me a grand change over once wagon sold.
We already own a 2002 hzj 100 turbo diesel but saw a diesel 80 series for sale,
1994 gxl 1hz 265000 km new tyres, manual etc. They are asking 9500 neg was gonna offer 8 grand for it providing it passes all my checks. What's the thoughts? Anything model specific to look for? looking at it tonight. The 100 is set up for touring /
camping and was looking at making the 80 a safer car for her to drive to work/ trips away etc

keep the commodore.
cheap to run, 80series has soo much more maintenance, costs too it.
but if you can afford it then do it.
the commodores are pretty good on fuel, witht the new engines, sidi...
short work distance wont hurt.

The landcruiser would probably hold its value better than the commodore but way more expensive if a big ticket item goes wrong.
Make sure the engine / gearbox etc are in good nick, get the engine compression tested, have a mechanic look over it.
Approx costs of these items breaking:
Engine $10k
Manual Gearbox $3k
Transfer Case $2k
Diffs $1k ea

Just checked it out, needs swivel hub seals, has surface rust spots. Etc, decided to hang on to the wagon until we get a ve Calais wagon!

Your commodore would have air bags, and I am certain 80s did not, so the commie is a much safer car, and a vx is worth $3000 leaving you with $5000 to find.
Cheers
