G'day all

Just caught the tail end of a news article on TV in WA that said
WA insurers would not give comprehensive insurance for 2012 cars onwards that did not have 4 stars or more.

I think there were some big names among the more obvious.

Nissan and Toyota, were among those mentioned. The obvious ones were Cherry and Great Wall,, but not all models.

I didn't catch the Nissan models, but the tojo appeared to be the cab chassis model.

Basically if it scores less than 4 stars it will not get insurance.

Might this spread to other states?

I'll do a bit of digging, because my isuzu dmax 2011 is only 3 stars.

It will be interesting to see if any other insurer take the same line.

hi boo boo
and mining companies are now telling dealers that they require 5star rating or they wont buy them because of ohs standards i read that this week as well
one dealer told me just yesterday unless the vehicles come into aus with 5str safety they wont be ordering them and fair enough too
but does that mean that the older vehicles on our rds will be forced off our roads
i think i can see this coming through the haze in the not to distant future by legislation
this will cause a resurgence of new sales in the motor industry
the older ones will be put through the crusher
my visions of the future might be wrong but i my self can see the writing on the wall
cheers

What!!! " older ones will be put through the crusher".

That would put my wife and I as well as my sister off the road. No way could any of us afford to buy a new 4WD on our pension. Let's hope the jury stays out for a while.

But then again I can hear some of my old forum sparring buddies cheering!!!

Sometimes I get so cheesed off at OH&S stuff. What's wrong with taking responsibility for our own actions and not stepping off the roof "accidentally". But then again a lot of "younger" ones couldn't even spell "responsibility"

Next thing will be that they legislate that we change out toothbrush every 12 months.

Time for a cuppa.

Lets hope for the time being, that you are wrong Barry.

Barry, please, why the scaremongering?
"older vehicles forced off our roads"
"older ones put throuh the crusher".
ADRs and safety requirements for new vehicles have constantly evolved ever since the requirement to have a man waving a flag in front of a moving vehicle.
Never in the history of motor car production have older vehicles that do not meet the specifications required of new vehicles been "forced off of our roads"
What exactly is this vision of the motoring future that you see?

The vision for the motoring future is:
all concerned parties, be it insurance/motoring organizations/ OH&S laws and car makers, etc, will continue to extract as many $$$$$$'s out of driving public as they can, and will continue using laws and intercompany "arrangements" to assist their relentless pursuit for profit.
What else is there in life?
If people suddenly become responsible for their actions and didn't have accidents the whole system would fold up.

Total, complete and absolute cr%p.
Land Rover still sell the Defender in Australia, and I have a 2012 model.
It has never been ANCAP tested or rated, does not have Air Bags, or ant other equipment like that.
What would happen with all Historic Vehicles?, Classics etc.
In NSW we have yearly roadworthy checks. This keeps the junkers mainly off the roads.
Kris
Never forget: cars have owners, Defenders have field service personnel. The other car is my crumple zone.

I can't see vehicles being forced from the road because they don't meet the 5 stars.

I think it will be a long time coming before other insurance companies adopt the RAC position.

I am almost inclined to believe they are being politically correct to the extreme.

With millions of cars on the road that don't meet 4 let alone 5 stars I can't see all insurance companies wanting to only insure 4/5 star as there would not be enough to go around. Insurers would go out of business.

Hence I'm not really worried about this situation and will not get my wifes nickers in a knot.

Hey Phil,

"Next thing they will legislate that we change our toothbrushes every 12 months"
Mate, haven't you seen that ad for a certain brand of pillow that now comes with a recommended replacement date.

I can just see it now, inspector rocks up to the door and demands to check toothbrushes, pillows and underwear and sock draw (;-))

Cheers
