Looking at getting some self inflating mattresses, for
camping in the tent.A friend had a Denali 'Camper royale' I was quite surprised how comfortable it was,he was too,and found it to be very good.
I googled around all the usual haunts, but could not find that model,it appears no longer available,I did find this
Denali 'Ultimate Mat' on special
Denali Ultimate Camper Mat
I ordered one,but might order others for family members, just wondering if anyone here has one of these, and what its like.
I did find this, its a fair bit dearer, but might be the go for my longer trips, its a Black-Wolf brand-there most comfortable looking (and expensive) model, has anyone got or used it?
Denali Mega delux mat
Thanks for any thoughts on self inflating mattresses, hopefully someone here might have some experience with above models.

Bought one of the Ultimate camper Mats for the Queen on our recent Canadian jaunt. She was very happy with it. I was using the ever faithful Thermarest which is now 15 years old. One thing to be aware of with the Denali is the load limits. Yep I'm the first to admit that I'm carrying a bit of "extra" condition these days but they will give way at the seams if you are a larger person, particularly if you add extra stress to them by dropping onto them. Best to kneel down onto the tent floor and then onto the mattress rather than dropping directly onto them, particularly if you like them blown up tight. Good value though. Outback Al managed to get a very good quality mat at a steal from Kathmandu during their sales. I think it
bore their name as
well. It seemed better quality than the Denali, similar to that of the Thermarest.
Cheers Mick

Thanks Mick for the advice,I've never owned such a mattress,so some helpful points there-thank you!
I did look at thermarest one on ebay, I am still giving some thought to the 'Black-Wolf' one,on the given link in my first post.Maybe it has a much better build quality, but even so,your advice about kneeling down on tent floor first is very good.

Darter,
It all depends on how often you intend using the mats. If you intend to use them regularly then definitely go with the Thermarest, they are more expensive but of a higher quality and will last much longer.
It is like anything to do with
camping and 4wd driving, quality costs.
I think that Denali is a home brand from Anaconda.

We have just been on the road with another couple that has the BLackwolf ones that you mentioned and they are very happy with them.
I plan on getting the same before the next big trip as
well, I had a look at he Denali ones and compared the two and visually the quality looks the same. The Denali one is 10cm longer, I am tempted to get them as they are substantially cheaper but I keep hearing a nagging wife sound in my head of " you should of paid more and got the good ones"
They may be just as good but I am not prepared to take he risk

We use the self inflating Roman 'moon mat' and are happy with them. We did buy the thickest ones though. I'm not sure how the quality compares to the thermarest ones, but we have been using them for 8 years now.

OK,thanks everyone who took the time to give advice,I'll likely end up getting the 'Black Wolf' one in link, the Delani one I purchase will be useful for occasional family members and friends that come out
camping.

I just spent 6 weeks in Canada sleeping on a 7.5 cm self inflating mattress from Kathmandu. Their own brand. Doesn't have a model but it was the
grey one. They had a sale of 60% off and I picked up a $200 mattress for $80 so keep your eye out for bargains like that.
I have used foam mattresses, air mattresses and 4WD sleeepign mats but this one is streets ahead. As an older person as MickO makes out and I have underlying back problem which did not trouble me at all on this trip. For occasional use as you intimated the Black Wolf would be fine, but for anyone wanting long term comfort, spend the $$$.

I went down this path last year, looked at the denali but went with the Black Wolf in the end, better quality, thicker and better warranty, but more $.
Very happy with my choice after using it for several nights.

Thanks,I had a look at Kathmandu site, they have a 7.5 cm thick model,as mentioned by Alan, they are approx $200 but if one joins there club or whatever it is,that mattress is $139.
The Black Wolf mentioned in my link, might be the very best? its 9.5 cm thick, and 77 cm wide, which is a good 10 cm wide than all I've looked at.
Its $213 on special from Anaconda,so might buy this one and a $100 -5 rating coleman sleeping bag.

Pleased Mick O found the Kathmandu self inflater worked
well, I have had two of them are they both deflate to varying extents over night, however they are only 50mm thick jobs. I have plenty of Kathmandu gear, some of it is fantastic value & good quality, can't say that for their air mattresses though. When I "complained", the store manager said all self inflaters go down, wasn't until I bought a couple of other brands I determined he was either lying or more lilkely didn't know what he was talking about.
The Club is a $10 pa
membership unless you spend $200+ pa., then it's free.
My recommendation is buy something like Black Wolf or if you can stretch to it, a ThermaRest. I do backpack multiday bushwalking, the Thermarest is fantastic.
