Not a bad article. However after over 30yrs in the police investigating serious collisions, as
well as considering the effects of fatigue on the body whilst driving one must also consider the effect of consuming a large meal then driving. It is recognised by medical research that once a large meal is consumed blood is diverted from all parts of the body to the digestive system to breakdown the food consumed. Everyone would have experienced this, if you think back to consuming a large baked dinner and desert - within half an hour of consuming the meal you feel tired, lethargic and want to sleep. The same happens when driving, you drive for a number of hours, stop have a big meal, usually of high fat high carb concentration, say to yourself
well I've had my stop revive and survive, then you continue driving and wonder why you start to feel tired and lethargic in half an hour. If not recognised many people try to drive through the fatigue period, some with dire consequences. Me, I just have a coffee and some fruit when driving an wait for a large meal when I have reached my intended stop.
