Prado Lift

Hi Fellas' Have a 2000 Prado which only does beach work, would like to lift it 2" so as to give it that bit more clearance. Tyres are 265/75/16, should i bother with the lift ? If so any recommendations in the Brisbane area...tx

I used http://zordos4wdsuspension.com.au/ to supply my parts this time on my 04 Prado. John is a lovely bloke and would be happy to answer any of your questions and his prices are awesome.
I have no affiliation with John just great service and advise and would gladly use him again.

That will mean you be able to bog it 2'' deeper.

Easy.... and don't say the diff will hold it up , last time I got bogged to the chassis the diff was 3/4 covered , so what I'm saying is ..if the chassis is 2'' higher then the diff will go in 2'' further before the chassis touches ground.

hhhmm, well that's an interesting take you have on it. So what you are saying is that if you have a 4" or 6" lift etc you will keep burying the undercarriage of the vehicle till you hit the chassis ??

We were talking about 2'', now you have added 4'' and 6'' , I would presume if the mud is soft enough yes.

Where do you reackon the rear diff and chassis was when my Troopy was bogged for 4 days.

If you read my original post I said all I do is beach work, you have added the mud for some reason which is entirely different situation and doesn t apply to my original question. I mention the 4" & 6" lift as your reasoning of getting stuck deeper should still apply regardless of lift ?

Hello.

I have a 2000 Prado and took it to TJM, in ADELAIDE however. New XGS gold shocks and coils, lifted it 50mm. ARB do the same job as well, using Old Man Emu shocks.

Hello.
Standard 16" prado steel rims, BF Goodrich AT 265/70's tyres. I thought about 75's but didn't want to stuff the speedo up, didn't want to gear the car up. Especially seeing as I pull a Kimberley Kamper and the car is a manual. I think the clutch is working hard enough.

It's my second set of AT's. I thought about the Mud Terrain but apparently you can't get them in 70 series on a 16". The first lot didn't puncture, and did about 80,000 ks. We've been up the Cape on the OTL, on some rough tracks like out to Surveyor Generals Cnr, (cnr of WA, SA, NT). out of Chambers Pillar to Finke, Dailhousie etc. and they haven't missed a beet. They clog up in mud however, but most of my trips are in the dry. The prado is a petrol, was on gas but I took that off. It's done just over 200,000k and you could eat your dinner off the engine, doesn't use a drop of water or oil. I don't think you can beet a Toyota for serious outback travel. Only problem is you pay for them.

Don't know any Brisbane based people who do the work, but I've used ARB on the Gold Coast to do that job. Might be worth putting your question to the pradopoint site (www.pradopoint.com); there will be someone from Brisbane there I'm sure.

I do like the extra height when the vehicles loaded for camping on places like Fraser, just to get around the bypass tracks at the Northern part.

regards
Garth

Thanks for your input Garth, appreciate it. I have owned other 4wd's which I have raised due to lack of clearance. Never owned a Prado before and was told by another Prado owner not to bother with the height. Think he was just being cocky about its capabilities..lol.

Seriously no 4x4 needs a suspension lift no matter where you drive.... BUT a suspension lift makes it easier and causes less damage to the vehicle and the enviroment.

Hi Comare
Try Suspension Stuff, they are located in Brisbane, I have found them to be very good and knowledgeable.
I would also recommend Superior Engineering who are located at Burpengary, very knowledgable and great service.

I had a 2005 Prado in which I installed Lovell springs and bilstein shocks with coil rite air bags in the back for when I had the camper on the back. It was the best ride I have ever had in any vehicle. I loved that set up and can highly recommend it for Prado's.
