Hi,
I submitted an earlier request for a repairer for this heater, and have had some replies. One highlighted reliability problems that members were having. My search has found little input. (this may be my fault)
Can members please advise what problems they may have had/are having, and indicate if they are serious, and whether they have been resolved. I was considering buying from the UK. I have taken on board the advise re this option. It would however appear that there are also reasons why I should not buy local either.

I require heating when freecamping, and find little to choose from. LPG seems ideal, but.....

Members findings re the reliability of the CURRENT E2400 heater would be greatly appreciated
Thank you, Barry

Yes good solution for cold night free camping in the caravan! I love it! You do need 12VDC to power the heater also. Buy in Australia so it meets our standards and regulations plus supports Australian jobs.

It must be connected by a Gas Fitter who can only install an Australian approved device! Sleep in the warmth knowing that you will be alive and your love one, to enjoy many more years from your approved heater, which is supported in Australia.

Hi Barry,
I cannot give advice re Truma products or other similar products other than the Planar Diesel Heater in the 2KW version

I have installed the 2Kw Planar diesel heater and it works very well.
The Planar 2KW looks exactly like this one
Diesel Heater
The Planar was only $680 as opposed to higher cost for the Truma. Not sure what the Truma cost.

If I was buying one again I would buy this one as it is slightly bigger, cheaper and they work very well. Not only that but it comes with its own removable diesel tank bolted on.
4.6Kw Planar Heater

I have tried several methods of van heating but find these the best.

Hope this is of some help.
Cheers, Bruce.

Just did a quick google on Truma Heater Problems and came up with the following page of info.
Truma Heater Problems

I noticed some are in the UK so I doubt there is a benefit buying from the UK. They are more than likely made in the one factory anyway.

Cheers, Bruce.

G'day Barry,
We have just replaced the Truma gas/elect with a Suburban gas/elect.
We had the first one replaced under warranty that then stopped working on elect.Had that fixed at about $400 ,now the gas went again Quote about the same. this is over a 4 year period. But wouldn't be without one though.

The thread is about the Truma E2400 LPG heater (Central heating) not a Truma HWS.

Hi Barry 22,
We have installed the Truma E2400 heater after much research comparing to diesel variety Everyone has an opinion. I am happy I went with LPG - quiet, no smell, no maintenance problems. When installing, spend a little time selecting a suitable space for unit BEFORE cutting hole for flue/exhaust. I purchased my off eBay - I think was around $1390 after rebate.
We also have the Truma gas/electric HWS which has been fine in our van.
Regards

Have had this truma in our trailer for 12 months.
Works perfectly, very efficient and easy to use.
About to purchase another one for another trailer.

Had the Truma E2400 gas heater installed in a our van a few months back - unfortunately, we have only used if several times (trip plans interrupted) .... but it works a treat - quiet, highly effective and extremely easy to manage - gas made so much sense for us (we have a 12/24V compressor fridge and 2 x 9kg cylinders up front - gas to spare) - not having to mess with smelly diesel fuel was an attraction too..... but for vans with large gas guzzling 3 way fridges, diesel does make sense).

HI Barry,

We have a Trumatic E2400 (Australia)
fitted in our new van.
So far we have found it very good...clean, no smell, and very effective.
But we have found it to be very sensitive to gas supply.
When we run out and changed to second bottle, the next morning the red alarm light came on in gas heater after it cut out after about 20 seconds.
But after re starting it on the third time it kept going OK and no further problems.
So it might have been some air in gas line.
Also after not using it for a few weeks... same problem when trying to start.
But after a few attempts it is OK again.
Overall we are happy with it... a necessity when free camping in winter even in inland Queensland.
Cheers
