In mid January there is a plan afoot to visit the Upper Murray. Two options have presented themselves, Gadds Bend or Neils Reserve!
Which one and why? That is the question!

Gadds Bend is a large flat right on the low river bank and a nice spot if you can get a bit of shade. The down river end of the flat is very good for that.

It can get very busy that time of the year all along the upper murray so space could be a premium. Never stopped at Neils Flat.

Stayed up that way in April this year. Have a look at Clarke's Lagoon which is not too far from Neil's bend. Spent a few days there and had the place to ourselves.

Wilko,
Yes, it was flowing really well and cold. Water temperature was 6 degrees. I know as my wife and I both went for a dip. Took a while to get over that stupid decision. They were letting water out of the dam at Khancoban into the Murray. We had spent a week or so all up through the Snowy mountains and all the catchments were full or nearly full. They were releasing water out of Jindabyne to the Snowy and also releasing out of Blowing into the Tumut & Murrumbidgee rivers. It was wonderful to see the snowy mtns scheme in full flight. They did a wonderful job all those years ago to build it in such a tough conditions.

Clarkes Reserve is a very good spot, as are Gadds Reserve & Neils. Last time I as past Neils it was closed due to flood damage, but may be open when you come. There are many good spots to camp in this area,

I hope this has helped.
Lloyd.
