Can't you just download it from the App Store?

Camp 7 will be out in a few months

Hi

Purchased Camp 6 app this morning and have been having a quick play in the lounge room.

2 things I don't like:

1. When requesting direction to dump points the app crashes - does automatically ask to send a report when it restarts though!

2. The add bar at the bottom - if app was free no probs but paying $59.95 plus $29.95 for updates, I don't expect adds.

But it is easy to use - gives good info on sites - and allows the user to add reviews, photos and other info. Don't know if this is the shared with other subscribers?

On first look, it does look good.

Cheers

Anthony

I bought this app & was disappointed that there was a banner ad.
I contacted CAW & received this reply:

Hi Daryl

The iAd’s system should not have been on, our tech guy is working on this now to disable, this should be fixed by end of today.

My apology for this error on our part.

Regards & safe travels

Philip

Yep as posted in thread 98627.
To be pedantic its actually Camps Australia Wide app not camp6. You do not have to buy a new app when camps7 is released, that is what the subscription cost is for.
It is pretty expensive, the same cost as the printed version for no publishing costs to the authors.

Yep - but now it is available.

The $59.95 buys you Camps 6. The $29.95 only gives you updates for twelve months -so if your tight and don't pay the extra I would imagine that you will have to pay again for Camps 7 when it comes out.

The fact that was available was also posted in the previous thread earlier this arvo.

This is an email I got from Phillip at CAW.
"The Camps App once purchased has a subscription option, this will provide the user with updates each month for any changes to the existing sites in the App, plus we provide all the new sites each month that are added to our database, as we complete our field research.

If you choose not to subscribe you only have the information as loaded in the app.

Monthly $4.99 or Quarterly $9.49 or Yearly $29.99. Your subscription chose will depend our your travels

If users elect not to subscribe they just retain the original information in the App"

I know it is dangerous, but I assume if you take up the subscription later you will get all the updates and not have to buy the complete app again.

Hi Allen

I am using an iPad, i don't think there is an android version available.

You can't search by campsite number - if you have a look in the Camps 6 book, site numbers are repeated across the states ie WA has a site 123 as does QLD, NSW etc. So you need to search by name. If you have a GPS enabled iPad/iPod/Iphone, it will show places near you, then you can open the site and have a look at them.

I purchased Metro View, and it is basically a TomTom for your Apple device. It does give you spoken turn by turn directions for a campsite at the push of a button in The Camp 6 app though. how acurate/quick it is I don't know yet as I am still playing with it in the loungeroom. Is it necessary - i think you could do withoutit if you have an in car navigator. I will probably not use it opting for my car computer to do my navigation - more because I am familiar with it.

It (Camps 6) uses Google Maps - you can zoom and get a fairly accurate zoom of the roads you follow. Don't know how accurate it will be for more remote sites though!

Metro View seems to have all the bells and whistles of a standalone navigator but, i haven't had a good look at it yet. You can set the vehicle icon as a "car and caravan" but no 4WD (guess i can't use it then LOL).

You can find some info in the Apple app store - search for Camps Australia Wide - there are no user reviews yet because it has only just been released.

I have had quite a few people member message me with questions and it has been really easy to have a look at the app and give them an answer.

So far I am really happy with it and can't wait to use it in the feild

Hope this helps

Cheers

Anthony

Short answer, yes. Gets costly, but then again Wikicamps unfortunately doesn't have off line mapping.

G'day all,

I'm disappointed that the Camps app costs so much as I have been waiting for something like this from them for some time now. Maybe they believe that have the market and can hold their own. If so they are horribly wrong and have left it too late and have the wrong pitch on this.

IMHO Wiki Camps appears to be far ahead of them and much cheaper at $2.99, click on this link to see their website : > Wiki Camps

Either way I'm amazed at the apps that are available and what they do.

Cheers

Yep another vote for wiki camps here. And I belive it will just improve and improve. Yes no offline mapping but if with Telstra and plan a bit no problems.

If my understanding is correct, Camps App downloads all the data onto the tablet, except site photos. Whereas the Wiki camps downloads the map and data as required.

Personally, I prefer the whole App on the pad and not be reliant on phone coverage which is almost zilch outback. The price of the Camps app isn't too bad considering the book version is around $50. I can't till they release an Android version.

Wikicamps is available for Android and has the data on the tablet and automatically updates when you go online. It does download Google maps as required when on line so if off line you can't see where the campsites are on a map. However if you select to Goto a site it will give you the option of using a nav program, in my case Navigon on my android tablet.

I don't have CAW but it appears to me that except for the data content and availability of maps they appear much of a muchness at this stage.
