Rick (S.A.)
Just installed a RAM holder for my new iPad.
I am gunna use this for outback navigation as my 7" Seeka had now died 3 times while running Ozi.
Plus, I can email back home, do the banking, read books, use it overseas (will be in Europe for 6 weeks over Chrissy) etc when I get to 3 G reception. Great screen in full sunlight & even I can read it while mobile............
The installation blocks a tad of vision over the LH front corner but I imagine a bloke can cope.
I also had a bracket fabricated to enable the highlift to be used at the rear. The new ARB bullbar can accommodate the highlift tongue, so the front is sorted.
But the pathetic Mazda scissor jack can't be inserted under
the springs in some situations, making the vehicle unjackable. With the tongue installed on either the left or right,I can now lift enough to chuck something under the wheel, or to easily change a tyre. The jack can be used end on or from the side on the tongue.
The jack & shovel are now on the rear of the roof rack, but I am already thinking of mounting it on the LHS. No, the shovel and/or jack does not protrude past the side of the vehicle in its current position.

Nice setup, Rick.
I have a BIL in Vic who says the boys in blue there frown rather seriously upon devices that restrict the drivers view. Might pay to check that out before use in civilisation as yours does fill a fair bit of transparent real estate :-). Can't see it being a problem off-road, though, as long as you think you can see
well enough.
Cheers

Gday
I have just been reading a little of what Vic Roads says about your set up and he would be rather peeved. From the drivers eye position, you must be able to see unobstructed to a point on the road 11 meters ahead of your vehicle through all parts of the windscreen . 15deg to the right of straight ahead and 56 deg to the left of straight ahead.

Hi Rick
Great set up for out in the bush only................
I was speaking about your set up at work this morning and one of the chaps that I work with was in SAPOL for 40 years. When he saw your pictures he said that you could be fined for having it there and you sort of shot yourself in the foot when you also posted
"The installation blocks a tad of vision over the LH front corner but I imagine a bloke can cope"
It is a great set up never the less.
Cheers
Stephen

Looks great Rick! Are you using the maps that come on the iPad or other mapping software?
Cheers

You can post photos by using Photobucket link.
The original poster used this method and appears to have spit the dummy and removed them from his Photobucket account and that's why they dissapeared

No problems here with the photos at the present time.
However I do have to agree with the comments regarding the dash setup.
Also the shovel and jack wouldn't last long on a narrow bush track before they were torn off by the first low branch.
