Howdy peoples... I had my 4.5TD V8 76 Series Cruiser chipped a few weeks ago - awesome power and torque but chewed too much juice - was running way too rich and dumping heaps of black soot, has been rectified since but am alittle concerned about extra build up around the injectors... Was just wondering if anyone could recommend some kind of diesel additive to give the fuel system and injectors a clean in??? Or am I being over cautious....

Im chemical injector cleaning is frowned upon in diesels..particularly in modern common rail diesels.

There are some known good additives but cleaning injectors is not the aim.

The single best thing you can do for your diesel engine is a couple of good long highway runs that contain a couple of good range pulls.......think in terms of 4 hours pluss.

If you are lopking for a diesel adittive for other purposes.....fuel doctor is one of the best for fuel condition and knocking down diesel bug.

For improving lubricity, two stroke oil at 200:1 is very hard to beat.

If you have a common rail diesel, be carefull what two stroke you use and read up on it first.

there are a couple of good threads..one on 4wd action and another on ausfish........there is plenty of information on diesel in two stroke out there......Google two stroke in diesel and there is about a weeks quality reading.

cheers

Hi Scot, You have to wonder why vehicle manufactures dont add "power up' systems. They would consider all the problem you are experiencing. They probably are not really legal with emmisions more than likely way outside the Euro standard for the vehicle the unit is fitted to. Engine longevity would also be a concern when pouring excessive fuel into the engine to obtain more power than the engine is designed for. I'm not out to give you a hard time, just a thought when I read you post. regards Michael

Hey Michael, Thanks for you input... Starting to wonder if the money spent on the chip was worth it - from all the reports i heard and read on the net i only read positive reports and the chip was supposed to have given me around 13/14L per 100 plus all the extra grunt... Got the grunt but economy was around 20L+ per 100!!! So yeah im hearing what your saying... He has tuned it back down so will find out what sort of economy i get over the weeks... Last thing I want is to be decreasing the engine longevity!!!

Tow something really heavy, for say 2-3 hrs, work the thing really hard, without a heavy right foot, (ease the right foot, and use the gears) and you may well blow all that crap out of the motor.

Apparently the thing to remember with those V8 motors, and the gearbox set up, is they never really work hard enuf to "blow out" all the gunk. So you have to do that bit for them, by getting into them., a little bit more.

They do go hard though

ps... if you ever want to swap motors with my GU 11 4.2 TD Poootrol, just let me know

When ever my cruiser gets a bit rattly in the mornings I feed a bottle of toyota diesel injector cleaner in the tank. Seems to do the trick.

Also I have been putting two stroke oil in the tank now for 4 years with no problems. 200:1 - I am at 135 000 kms .

Cheers
