Hi guys
im plannig a trip to adelaide for mas this year, planned to have 2 vehicles going. Unfortunately the second car has had to drop out on us.

My question is, will we still be able to have much of an explore and some fun? We were planning to go through the Flinders Ranges en route back from Adelaide to Perth but not sure if its wise with only one of us.

I own a PK Ranger and am fairly confident I know my boundaries with it but its still reassuring to know Ill have someone there to pull us out if all else fails.

Secondly, is anybody else going to be in the area between xmas and a week after new years?

Cheers
Steve

Except for some side tracks, the average Commodore or Falcon will allow you to see much of the Flinders with care. Not familiar with your vehicle, but sounds like you'll be OK with a little care.
Local info and guidance will point you in the right direction when you get there, and you'll find there is not much you will not be able to get to.
Back in the seventies we explored the place in a Mini Moke, and went everywhere we wanted to with ease and safety.
There is much to enjoy.
Cheers, Bob

A beautiful place is the Flinders, but keep the potentially high heat levels in mind (36 to 41C in that region today...and it's not 'summer' yet). The area will probably be parched and have total fire bans a lot of the time......my pick would be the upper gulf seaside towns - sunny days, blue sky, crabs, squid and fish off the jetties... hard to beat as a summer holiday (but it might be a little crowded :-o(.

Hi Steve

You should have no problems at all. Apart from the dedicated four wheel drive pay as you go tracks, the rest of the Flinders is very civilised, and to think that in our teens we would go day trips up there, when it was all dirt roads in a stock standard Toyota Celeca.

Now you even have bitumen all the way up to Blinman.

Years ago one of the locals would always spend 2 weeks every year in the Flinders in January and when I asked him why he went when it was so hot, his simply reply was.....

"for the peace and solitude, as you had the whole Flinders to yourself. Find a nice cool spot in one of the Gorges and watch the wildlife come in for a drink, completely oblivious to and outsiders watching on"

Now with the popularity, you will still find that there will a number of people up there, just to experience the magic that the Flinders has on offer.

Cheers

Got to agree with you Stephen, lovely place near a water hole, under a great shady gumtree, deck chair, six pack and ya sunnies taking it easy.

HN5 has been away and now has updated versions of Route 66 and Oziexplorer to the HN5i version.

Cheers P&J

Yes I agree with Stephen. My first visits to the Flinders Ranges were in the early seventies in a TC Cortina. Poor thing, we took it where no such vehicle should go! Dragging a camper trailer too!

The Flinders are very special, more so in September when the wildflowers are about. In December it could be stinking hot and very dry so take that into your consideration, but some of the gorges could be pleasant. Really early starts are the go.

Cheers
