Hi, can anyone give a current report on this road (total distance about 110km) for someone towing an off-road campertrailer - an Ultimate CT. Google says that it is very steep (grade of 15%) in one small section of about 750 metres with a couple of other sections of about 10%. I'm thinking it should be fine as long as it's not wet but would appreciate any detailed info. Thanks, Ian

Hullo Ian

It is a great drive that is all sealed. There are some Creek crossings etc that should be slowed down for, but would likely be quite dry because of lack of rain.

I have towed our 3500+kg van both ways on this road a number of times and really enjoy the drive. We have a 200 Series Cruiser wagon.

It should not matter if the road is "wet" or not - just drive to the conditions.

I hope this helps.

Enjoy the drive.

Regards, Jack

Great, thanks Jack. One of our maps shows it as unsealed, the other shows it sealed. My 4.2Tdi Patrol towing a 1200kg camper trailer shouldn't have any problems. When we travel to Melbourne we try and use a different route each time...the Newell is pretty boring, so this looks like a good alternative. Thanks again.

Ian, it's an easy tow as Jack has said. I towed a 17ft off road van with a Jackaroo 3.0L TD from Narrabri with no trouble at all. Windy and a bit narrow in places but very scenic. Don't miss the chance to see Sawn Rock in the Mt Kaputar NP. Only a short distance from the road to a day use area with facilities and a short walk to the rock.
Cheers,
Kevin

G'day Ian,

We travelled this road a few weeks ago towing a near enough to 3 ton van, and had no problems at all, it's a great trip, enjoy.
Cheers
